When interviewed for a job, is it right to ask about your religion?

Unless I'm mistake (feel free to correct me legal eagles), isn't it also constitutionally illegal to do so in the States?
Or maybe it's just a foolish mistake by the employer which leaves them open to constitutional litigation?

IANAL, but in most cases, it would be very, very illegal for them to ask. Anti-discrimination laws and all that.

Which law says you can't even ask? I know you can't discriminate on the basis of religion, but I didn't think there was a law preventing you from even asking.

Either way, it's a pretty stupid question to ask that certainly wouldn't do you any favors in a religious discrimination suit.
