A Wordballoon Book Club? Your Thoughts

    Hey folks,

Visited DCBS In Stock Trades store, ad was kicking around the idea of starting a WB book club.

Unlike the other podcasts doing it, I was thinking about having only 1 or maybe 2 other hosts, but leaning more on the message board to provide comments on the books, and suggest titles as well.

If I did it, DCBS would offer the book of the month at an even higher discount , than their usual 40% off.

Further, I'd ;ike to look at not only comic stories, but also books about comics, like Geoff Klock's book" how to read comics" , or the recent Alex Raymond bio, etc.

What would you folks think? Are there enough of these BOM's out there or would this be something you'd like to hear, on a monthly basis?

    Sounds great!
Would you involve the authors too in the process? Or do you think that the hypothetical criticism may drive them away?

Since your podcast is the only podcast I listen too regularly the book club would be a first for me, say I say go for it.

But when you say books, do you mean single issue's or trades/GN'S?

no single issues ... OGNs trades, and especially books about comics.

I haven't heard any clubs do those books.

It depends on the creators, and the time they might have to do it. .

I'd definitely try to read whatever the book is and comment when I feel I have something worth saying.

I think it's a great idea. Even novels by comic creators would be fine with me. It's a great excuse to read stuff I know I want to read anyway.

I like this idea and a good suggestion for an episode would be Eisner/Miller. Which was a very interesting read about the creative process. And with other podcasts also doing book clubs it would be a way to stand out.

I'd do it. Great idea. I think it would be great to even do novels by comic folk as Longmont said.

I love that stuff when it's done right and by people who know what they're talking about. I'd certainly put you in that category but I'd cohosts can be a tricky thing. Word Balloon is the only comic book podcast I listen to regularly because you're the only one right now who I think is doing it right A lot of people seem to think that having read comic books for a long time somehow gives their opinions merit but I'd much rather listen to someone who has not only read comics, but has studied them as well.
