It wouldn't surprise me at this point. INCEPTION, which was thought to be kind of a small, no-pressure movie that would allow Nolan to decompress between Batman movies, has been revealed to have a $200-million budget. I can't see him doing that and transitioning right into the next Batman movie in any kind of time frame that would make Warner Bros. happy.
Yeah, I don't blame either party if it doesn't happen.
It's not like Nolan is the only one who can make a good Batman movie. Only three people have tried so far out of hundreds of directors.
Also, it's not like they can't make movies with other directors and have Nolan return to the series in the future.

Waiting until 2012 is a monumentally bad thing. But hopefully this is like most rumor-mill Hollywood stories where none of the reports are actually true.
