There is absolutely no reason why a 1-3 year old needs to see a movie past 9pm in a theater. None.

Parents that bring their kids to films at night or at a young age are dicks in my opinion. It isn't good for the kid and it is rude and inconsiderate of the other patrons.

    Well said.
Although I believe going to the movies is a great experience and one I remember fondly as a child, I specifically remember going to see the right movies at the correct times. But I didn't have a VCR or cable growing up.

And by the way, I have a 6 month old niece, and I love babysitting and going out with her, but there are correct times and places.
Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion.

I've taken my kids to the movies twice now. In both cases, it was a matinee. I wouldn't dare do it after 9pm. Heck, my kids expire and begin melting down after 8pm, I would be insane to think they'd behave in a movie theatre that late.

But anyone who can't stand it when kids act like kids at a children's movie during a matinee can go fuck themselves.

My parents took me to see Gremlins when I was 4. They said I was hiding under my chair the whole time.

As far as I know, it's the first time I went to the show. But I was always a super quiet kid and don't think I would have been a problem even at that age.

Too bad that isn't what any of us are talking about.

    Depends on the kid.

I've taken my 3 1/2 year old to about 5 movies and he sits there through the whole thing quietly watching the film, munching on his popcorn. We never go to a show past 4 pm so I don't know if that makes me and my wife dicks but we take him and he has a good time.

If he gets scared or something, he moves to my lap and very rarely talks outloud -- although he was verbal twice during Up:

    1. When the pack of dogs are introduced, he got a little scared
    2. At the climax of the movie, my son turned to me and asked 'What's Grandpa John gonna do?' -- Carl looks frighteningly like my father-in-law.

I seriously think it depends on the kid.

I know, I just thought I'd throw that out there as an aside.

Sounds like you are a good parent who knows what is acceptable for your individual child, who BTW sounds like a well behaved kid. That's cool. Some kids can see movies and behave well enough to not negatively impact the experience for others.

What irritates me are the overly permissive parents who let their bratty kids run around, throw fits, talk loudly, or even throw popcorn on others. Those types of parents reflect poorly on the good ones.

Well, I forgot to mention, my kid wears a collar that zaps him when he's being rude.
But we do let him run up and down the aisles hurling snakes at the patrons.
It's so funny to see them jump up and scream.
