In 2001 my property was 400sq feet now it's 5600sq feet, what a difference 8 years makes.
I like how this became the "half guard pays too much for milk" thread.

A donut at the grocery store now costs 70 cents. I am morally opposed to paying nearly a dollar for a donut. I used to pay a quarter. I also used to pay a quarter for a bagle, which has now jumped to $1.29. Bread is almost $2 a loaf for the store brand that used to be 99 cents. The price of a case of soda is steadily wearing away at the once unbridgeable gap between it and the price of a case of beer. Grocery shopping is depressing.

That's kind of what I was getting at. It's not so much a complaint; just weird now because I never really thought about it before. Here's a comparison from going through some of my old bills while shredding old stuff in the file cabinet this weekend:
2001
gallon of gas = $1.47
monthly electric bill = $160.00
monthly rent = $300.00
monthly grocery bill = $300.00
2009
gallon of gas = $1.99
monthly electric bill = $190.00
monthly rent = $400.00
monthly grocery bill = $1,000.00
Of course, everything goes up with inflation over an 8 year period, but everything except food has gone up with a modest increase; whereas groceries have jumped through the roof.
