Ok, and a week after Evra's complaint of racsism against a Liverpool player, John Terry comes under fire

Ok hardcore, football heads, educate me, is this a seriously huge problem in football, that cops needs to get involved??
I think it's more a relic of something that used to be WAY too prevalent that English football in particular has worked hard to reduce and any indication of it arising gets stamped down hard.
It's very weird reading a book like Fever Pitch which deals with soccer in the 90's and to read about things like racist chants, bananans being thrown on the pitch and Everton not even having a black player. They've come a very long way since then and part of that is taking this stuff extremely seriously.

My buddy visiting from England brought me a Fulham mug. I don't know whether I should feel honored...or ashamed. (He also brought me Coleman's mustard and plain chocolate Hob Nobs, so that sorta makes up for everything else. )

Depends on the country, but here it's not too bad I don't think.

I think he is saying a different word from the accusation there.

Just to put a bit of the record straight, the first Black Player at Everton was 1966, Mike Trebilcock who went on to be the first black player to score in a FA Cup Final that same year.

For some reason Everton always seems to get the reputation of not having any black players when it's actually Liverpool who were late in the game when in 1980 they fielded their first black player, Howard Gayle.

Just felt the need to defend my club

Also it's a long time since I read Fever Pitch but I seem to remember that much of the racism portrayed was when he was remembering being a kid in the 70's & 80's, but I could be wrong.

I think in general the FA have made a good go at stamping out racism in football which is why cases like John Terry gets so much attention because it's not the norm and if true not acceptable. You'll never completely get rid of it though until FIFA clamps down on Eastern European clubs and Spanish\Italian clubs where it's still rife.

EDIT: Found this which for me is interesting. List of Premier League clubs and débuts of Black players http://www.epltalk.com/first-black-f...gue-clubs-3430

I figured you'd chime in. I stand duly corrected

Nope, no problem, as I said it's not just you, I've had it from others more than once, hence having the names in my head It just seems to be a rep we seem to have and to be honest I'm blaming Liverpool for it as usual

I really suspect that's because of Fever Pitch - here's the quote from the Bananas chapter (Arsenal v. Liverpool 15.8.87) - he's talking about a book on race issues at Liverpool and throws in this after referring to Everton:

"(Everton, mysteriously, still haven't managed to find a black player good enough for their team)".
It's part of the larger paragraph dealing with how racist Liverpool fans were to a black Arsenal player. So blaming Liverpool is still appropriate.

Chelsea vs Arsenal was a great game to watch. Robin van Persie is on fire, 28 in 27 Premier League games in 2011. Fantastic, man.

up last night gaming and missed most of the matches. Will watch the replays later.

MUFC won in a lackluster match but a win is a win.
