I'd like to see both of those films as well, but as much as I love Magneto, I question just how well that would do at the box office.

See Hannibal Rising for essentially the same story of a young man's revenge against the Nazis who killed his family. It didn't do well.

Then again, HR suffered many problems, particularly the absence of Anthony Hopkins. If they can get Ian McKellen to play some part (even a narrative one) in the Magneto film, it'll lend it some much-needed credibility and it might do okay.

As for Deadpool, it'll be successful depending on how well audiences like his character as portrayed in Wolverine. They might like him enough for the studio to say, "okay, let's greenlight this movie," but will they love him enough to actually go and see his own spin-off film? I guess we'll find out in a few years when that movie becomes a reality.

Reynolds can bring in an audience. Plus, the flick will be able to bank on the X-Men franchise. It's not just going to be called "Deadpool," I guarantee you that. Unless they really botch Wolverine, I think you can make a success out of Deadpool. Gambit is trickier, though.

As for Magneto, Fox has said they won't do it without McKellen. I'd focus mainly on his early years but also bring in the present, picking up where X3 left off, and possibly touching on the Xavier plot thread that was left dangling.

Gambit has a rather large fanbase made up of people who were children during the 1990s. They're now grown up of course, but they'll go and see his movie.

I mean, I was a kid during the 1990s, and I remember people my age who read the comics and saw the cartoon series. Whenever the topic of X-Men comes up, the first two names mentioned are always Wolverine and Gambit, and the most frequent complaint I hear is "why the hell didn't they put Gambit in the X-Men movies?" Likewise, when I tell them that Gambit is going to be in the Wolverine solo movie, they get excited.

That's no guarantee of success of course, but there would certainly be an audience for a Gambit film, just like there will be an audience for a Deadpool film.

As for Magneto, your ideas are good, but I get the sense that FOX seems to have some sort of reluctance about continuing the story past where X-Men 3 left things off. Instead of more sequels they're making all of these spin-off prequels, and Hugh Jackman has even said that if there's a Wolverine 2 a few years down the line, it'll pick up from where this first one leaves off, rather than take the character forward from the end of X-Men 3. I know that Wolverine has a wealth of stories to be told about his past, but movie audiences are no different than the rest of us; they like for things to go forward rather than backward. Bearing that in mind, it's kind of odd for FOX to have a bunch of these upcoming movies taking place in the past.

Maybe they're just waiting a while to see if they can get the full cast together again after making some bank from these spin-off prequels, or something, before continuing.

Oh yeah, Gambit definitely has a following, but with a smaller actor, I think it'd be a tougher sell over Deadpool.

I think Fox is done with ensemble X-Flicks, anyway. They can easily keep the franchise going with solo flicks, so why bother trying to get that cast back? Rogue and Mystique's story is done, no one gives a shit about Storm, Cyclops and Jean are dead... The only characters worth returning to are Wolvie, Magneto, Xavier and maybe Beast or Nightcrawler in supporting roles. Maybe Juggernaut.

If Deadpool does get made I'm sure it will be at more of a Ghost Rider budget.

I'd like to see some lower budget, more nuanced Marvel movies. New Mutants, X factor (the current peter David film noir iteration) and such.

    Letter from Jackman at AICN:
Hey Mate- Would you mind posting this? Thank you for your support! HJ

    Hey everyone -

It's Hugh Jackman, sending this note from freezing Vancouver. I have read a lot of your online comments regarding the footage that we are currently shooting and I share your passion for the Wolverine character and the movie - I owe it all to you guys!

I wanted to reach out and let you know that due to scheduling conflicts with certain cast members and location/weather considerations, we had to wait until now to shoot a couple of scenes. Please rest assured that WOLVERINE will be badass and hopefully meet all of your expectations. I am stoked by the positive response to the teaser, which clearly reflects the tone and scope of the film. If you like that, we've got much more in store!

In the meantime, here's an exclusive shot of some characters you may recognize...

    Cheers,

    Hugh

He also attached a new publicity still from the movie.
