Finally got around to watching Man on Wire and Encounters at the End of the World last night. Both were great and I don't see how Man on Wire can lose tonight but part of me would really like to see Herzog win. Encounters was an interesting look at Antarctica and all the research that goes on there and had some beautiful footage but as always, it's Herzog's narration that makes it an interesting film. I could listen to that guy talk about a baloney sandwich for 2 hours.

Thinking XXX - a documentary about the photo shoot(s) for the book by the same name, featuring porn stars with/without their clothes.

Finally caught Harlan ellison's "Dreams With Sharp teeth" docu on Sundance CH monday night. It was very good, but wouyld've liked a more detailed narrative, and a few more specifics of his TV and film work.

The range of people talkinga about Harlan were interesting too Josh Olsen (screenwriter of history of violence, among other scripts) was cool, as were Neil gaiman and Robin Williams.

Good use too of archival footage of Ellison with the late Tom Snyder, who was likely Harlan's biggets tv broadcaster/fan.

F yeah! Immediately after viewing that film I was obsessed with practicing my guitar. Had to learn motown licks....

Anyway, I haven't seen it in a long while but my favorite documentary is American Movie. Not only is it immensely quotable it is also an inspiration to me creatively. I mean, here's a story about a dude that against all odds actually got something accomplished (albeit on a relatively small scale).

I love that film too. I've heard that horror director on the radio here in chgo, I give that guy a lot of credit following his dreams.

Americna Movie is one of the most depressing things I've ever seen.

I actually saw the movie with the two of them sitting in the front row of the theater. It was a surreal experience to be laughing at them on screen as they sat a few feet in front of me. Great movie though and I was able to pick up a video copy of Coven while there.
