    Re: The Death of Batman

usually I just go with the flow of comics and I don't really care about these short term deaths, but this one makes no sense to me.

It's almost like DC is trying so hard to shake things up, that they decided to do this on a whim

    Re: The Death of Batman

Comic book deaths are virtually meaningless. Apart from various "red shirts," there is no death that a comic book isn't willing to retcon. Even deaths that could be considered the closest things to "sacred" in the comic world have been reversed in one way or another: Barry Allen, Bucky and Captain Marvel (I know.).

I expect visits soon from Uncle Ben, Gwen Stacy and Abraham Erskine (if, indeed, any of them haven't been resurrected at some point along the line that I don't know about).

No matter who dons the cowl for the next month/year/company-wide-event, we all know Bruce Wayne's going to wind up back as Batman at some point. I guess if it gets your sales up and gets you some media attention, then it did its job, but from a fan's perspective, I just don't see the point.

You're right, unfortunately - it is hard to not simply write-off comic book deaths as soon-to-be-rectified/retconned short term sales grabs that can very easily (but not necessarily) be creatively bankrupt.

On that note, was Gwen Stacy brought back at some point, even if it was just as a clone? Didn't she have a bunch of Norman Osbourne's babies or something weird like that?

And I presume we're talking about Batman R.I.P. here? I thought they didn't actually kill off Batman per se ... it was just about Batman's fail-safe back-up identity kicking in and taking over after the Black Glove and the League of Villains came down on him like a hammer on a junebug? The notion that Thomas Wayne basically kept Martha Wayne captive and addicted to heroin is pretty hilarious, though. Oh, that wacky, wacky Grant Morrison.

I am not into the Batman himself, but I did enjoy both of the Catwoman series, even if they ended them both with her going crazy. I mean come on!

With the return of the Multi-verse....would DC recon the Batman (and the"Trinity") on another/New Earth??

I belive there was only a 20-25 year difference between Earth-1 and Earth-2. A new DCU/Earth "started"(Kal El to earth) in the 1980's would give writers access characters active in the 21st century.
