I thought I'd attend this year, but I'd already made plans with my family. Oops! Maybe next year.
well, i have gone to mid-ohio-con plenty of times over the years...i think the first one i went to, john byrne was introducing jae lee as the new artist on namor. anyhoo...
while i was used to it being over thanksgiving weekend, it certainly bugged some of the family members who would rather congregate that weekend over turkey. so seeing it getting moved to early october is awesome, as far as im concerned. however even more awesome, the guest list!! i saw byrne there in the old days a ton of times, but never CLAREMONT, that is awesome that i will potentially add his signature to my byrne-signed x-men stuff, among others. but it sounds pretty exciting, even beyond that: alan davis, joe kubert--JOE KUBERT!!--, len wein, bob mcleod (i am seeing a hell of a mutant panel shaping up), arthur suydam, ...very cool. (and no i'm not forgetting etahn van sciver, looking forward to seeing you there too, evs.) also a good number of the usual mid-ohio suspects: roger stern, david mack, chris sprouse, daryl banks, billy tucci, and others. this is looking like a good show, i am looking forward to it a bunch...glad i remembered the date change!
EVS, assuming you are in contact with the show in some way currently, any chance of them adding any friday hours to it? that'd be cool.
looking forward to seeing anyone else who makes it!

p.s. some of my favorite mid-ohio con memories: a young brian michael bendis offering me Powers hard candies at his table...dave cockrum sketching a "bamf" with his signature in my book...john byrne in general.
p.p.s. (quick byrne story: i know he gets shit and sometimes may deserve it, but he is probably the single-most-responsible creator for my love of comics. anyway, always trying to come up with something memorable to say or ask the person i am meeting, i got to byrne and pointed to the little heads in the corner box that marvel used to run, which were based on byrne's drawings, and unwisely said, "so, do you get royalties every time they put one of those little heads in the little box?" and laughed, to which byrne stopped, looked at me for a long second, said "...no.", and went back to signing my books. well, i tried. still love his work, though.)

so, i just was looking at the details for what you get with the $100 ticket (one of the fun things is a photo IN either the mach 5 or the '66 batmobile! ha) and i noticed that you can get a "Collectible exclusive VIP badge with John Byrne poster art". in the past, byrne has been to this show many many times. but don't these cons generally try to use art by people who are actually attending this current year's show? i thought the idea was to generate interest in the work of attendees...as much as i like byrne, it just seems weird to use his art in a year when he ISN'T coming...i dunno, anyone else think this is strange?
