Maybe it's a third mutation. They changed back...
...or maybe other artists are just lazy.
This is something that has been on m nerves for a long time. When Frank Quitely was drawing New X-Men, cat Beast was drawn with very different knees and feet than he's had afterwards. Knees bent the other way and I think he had hooves. That's long since changed. Was it too much of a pain for other artists to draw, or is there some other, more sinister explanation?
- I'll go back to the real world now.

Do you have an example of this? Because I don't remember it. Maybe Frank just drew him with really thick quads so it was visual deception.
What it was was that he was a cat-beast. It was one of the introductions to the "Secondary Mutation" idea.
Hence his cat-like feet and face.
By the by, who came up with secondary mutations? And when?
yeah, they changed him in astonishing. he got those lame pants and normal legs instead of his sweet manly man open leather jacket, above scary tiger legs (from Morrison's New X-Men natch)
