Spiritual. It's not nearly as engaging or satisfying, but it has some good moments and interesting visuals.

Both. It's made by the same people, and the current DVD is the unrated director's cut.

Yep, a bit of both. Dumb kids, mystic weirdness going on, and at least one of the kids was going bonkers.

I know some folks hate the kids, find 'em annoying, etc., but I thought they were decent enough before things went wrong - pretty much like most college kids. But I never thought of 'em as "movie dumb", never lost my empathy for them.

Some of my favorite stuff in the movie is actually the beginning, where it all feels so innocuous and there's even some funny stuff with the locals, but also some creepy stuff starting to build - the old lady's story comes off very convincing, and I love the two guys who're fishing.

Been too long since I've seen Lifeforce, but it definitely made an impression on me as a young'un, and not just for the nudity - the apocalyptic stuff really creeped me out.

As for Fright Night, hells the fuck yeah. Not only genuinely witty, not only a great slice of 80s weirdness (Evil Ed!), not only a reasonably cool teen movie, but also genuinely creepy at times.

And the main bad guy - aka Prince Humperdink - is so awesomely smarmy!

Charlie holds up a cross, and he's all, like, "Oh, really?"

It seems like Event Horizon's become a cult recommendation, but my brother caught it a few months ago and told me it was crap and everyone was clearly high. His curmudgeonly movie tastes usually match up with mine, so it hasn't been high on my list. Mebbe some day.
