It's not great, but I'd love to see it again (haven't seen it since it played in cinemas twenty years ago).

A geek falls in love with Kristy Swanson.

    She dies.

    He refuses to accept that.

A bit more synopsis under here (it gets a little ridiculous):
    Spoiler:
He places a computer chip from his toy robot into her body and brings her back to life.

She starts to get weird. The robot computer chip turns her somewhat homicidal, and as the geek tries desperately to make her regain her humanity, she starts slaughtering all of his enemies.

    Bad things ensue.

The ending is really remarkable. It's completely over-the-top insane and makes no sense whatsoever, but it's so freaky that I still have vivid memories of it:
    Spoiler:
The robot/girlfriend hybird is killed by the police.

Distraught geek goes to morgue to bring her back one more time.

Girl comes back to life and starts choking geek, saying "come with me."

Robot with evil-looking face emerges from under her skin!

    She breaks his neck.

    The End.

The ending was imposed on the film by the studio. Craven hated it, and considers Deadly Friend his worst film. Nonethless, the studio-imposed ending is what makes the film memorable, in my opinion.

It's so crazy it just has to be seen.

From Beyond, slimy Lovecraft schlock mixing the Marquis De Sade and Tesla. The follow-up to Re-Animator.

    Re: Underappreciated horror movies.

I just saw this independent horror movie this week called Behind the Mask, which treats all other horror movies as if they actually occurred, and is a documentary on the next guy trying to be one of the big ones. I liked it quite a bit. It even has Robert Englund in a Donald Plesance from Halloween type role and a blink and you'll miss it Kane Hoddar cameo.
