Catch Me If You Can.
Hey guys,
I'm looking for examples of movies or TV shows where the main character is pretending to be someone he isn't--like, for example, Kevin Kline's Dave. It can be drama, comedy, whatever. Any help would be appreciated; this is actually for a pitch I'm doing to CBS/Paramount in a week and a half for a TV pilot, so please at least try for serious answers.
Thanks!
Joe
I think there was a Stanley Tucci movie called The Impostors, but I remember very little about it. There is also the entire body of the Mission Impassible tv series which involved this.
Mission: Impossible, the Oceans 11 movies, the Bourne Identity...
Maybe you should be a little more specific.
Does the person's pretense have to be the main plot of the movie/TV show, or can it be ANY story where someone has to pretend to be someone else, no matter how much screen time that takes up?

Good point.
Ideally, it would be something where a single main character, for most of or all of the arc of the story, pretends to be someone he's not.
Catch Me If You Can's a really interesting idea. Not sure if it fits, but it might--many thanks.
I guess I should explain--I'm actually doing one of those "Shawshank Redemption meets Flubber!" bits in the pitch. It's a cliche, but they want that in there, because it's the easiest way to establish the tone you're going for.

There is The Prisoner of Zenda and The Man in the Iron Mask. There is also The Prince and the Pauper and all of its likely several dozen homages. I get the idea that is not what you are looking for though.
What about Remington Steele? There was some ambiguity there ...
Also the FBI guy in Jericho.
Dexter and The Shield.
Dead Like Me, too... Kinda.
