No it doesn't. Your computer just needs a wireless card to pick up the signal though. Just remember wireless is not as fast as wired.
Does your wi-fi router (hub?) have to be connected to a computer? I would like to move my computer to a room that does not have a phone jack and I was wondering if I could keep the wireless router in the room but move the computer it's attached to.

Ours is in the basement with the modem. And the mirror drives.

Depends on the kind of router you have. If the router can log in to your internet connection by itself, then no, you don't have to have your router directly connected to your computer.

Thanks for all the info. I called AT&T and got the skinny. My router can be anywhere in the house and will connect to everything else no matter where it is as long as they have a wireless connector. So I gotta go get one but otherwise I'm all good.
