Because Marvel never gave a damn about the Abomination all these years. Except for Hulk fans, he was never a big deal like Doctor Doom or Magneto. When the director wanted to make his changes to the long established, classic B-movie monster look, I don't think Joe Q. or the rest of the boys put up a fight. He's just not a character that they had strong feelings about. It's a shame. I think if this sculpt had been done before pre-production of the movie, it would have been a definite influence. What does make me happy is that current Marvel artists will see this sculpt, be inspired by it and start using this look in the books again (when they resurrect him!)..
