I dig it.
awesome image, M!
the interesting thing about Hulk is; they just always did not know what to do with him. I reckon the reason he was so popular in the 70s was due to the tv show, although at the time, I probably thought it was the other way around. I have not read the original stuff from the early 60s for a little while, but I seem to recall that even within the first 1 or 2 they really were just all over the place with what would work for the character. Once you get past the Frankenstein monster or Golem origins of the character, then what? it's not an easy assignment, but amazingly, it has managed to remain out there for so long. the new movie looks pretty decent, and this is coming from a guy that has still not been able to sit through the original horseshit flick

See, I'm just sick of this "Hulk as force of nature" thing that's been going on for the past decade or so. It's hard for me to empathize with something like that just like it'd be hard for me to empathize with a hurricane. To me, Hulk's always been a big green guy with the mind of a child. I guess that comes mostly from reading his series in the 80's as well as the TV show. He's immensely powerful but naive, lonely, and insecure. You can't hurt him physically 'cause he' always going to be stronger than you so you have to deal with him on an emotional level, 'cause the only thing that makes the Hulk go away is to make him calm, happy, and secure.
Just my .02
Very cool. I'm a proponent of the childlike, misunderstood Hulk, hounded by the world too. Haven't really read any Hulk comics recently. The last good thing that really sticks in my head is that Corben/Azzarello BANNER mini from a few years back.
Oh, I guess I like Ultimate Hulk though.
I consider the "Banner" mini-series one of the best things I have seen come out of Marvel in ages. so I reckon I like the "Atomic bomb that keeps going off" take on Hulk. Also, and I always get a kick out of the fact I liked something with such a retarded title; Ultimate Hulk versus Wolverine, had tremendous potential. a damn shame it was never completed

Very cool. I've always loved your use of blacks, where I've seen your work elsewhere. I also like that it looks like Kirby Hulk in the features but not in the style. While it's interesting, the whole each artist doing their own take on something, it's refreshing to see that they are starting from the source material rather than just trying to put their own stink all over it.
Hmmmmm... that sounds awkward but it's supposed to be a compliment.

Sam - Yeah. I've tried a couple of times in recent years to pick up Hulk but I just don't like the treatment of him recently. The last time I really followed the series was back during the PAD days although I did pick up a bunch of issues of Bruce Jones' run.
I'm not a big fan of Ultimate Hulk. I don't think Hulk should eat other people. Maybe it's just me.
Brian - You know, Banner's one series I never got to read but I've always meant to. I should pick that up.
3!LL - Thanks for the compliment!
