Speed Raper?!? Well, at least he's fast about it.
so I just got back from a Tribeca screening of Speed Racer...
Mildly disappointed with the film, with the surrounding hype.
There are moments of sheer freneticism followed by long dramatic scenes that really hold up the movie. I guess they had to give it some sort of plot, but it really dragged along the rest of the film. At over 2 hours, the movie was way too long for a kids film. but kids will still enjoy it, as long as they're pumped full of ritalin.
There were some really fun scenes though- most of the races seemed to be F-Zero and Mario Kart inspired, which is obvious even from the trailers. Also, the fight scenes were fantastic for a PG movie.
and Christina Ricci was way hot as Trixie. mmmmmm
Overall I'd give it a 7/10 I think... teetering around a 6.5/10
I'll probably end up getting it on Blu-Ray because this is a really good visual experience, but the substance didn't really back it up.
I enjoyed the Matrix films much more (well, not the 3rd), but I guess this wasn't a movie made entirely for a man my age like the Matrix was.
Speed Raper?!? Well, at least he's fast about it.

Well, it had to be better than the trailers made it look, I guess.
I'm mildly excited for this.

the whole plot revolves around how racing is fixed and has been for years. You have a driver like Speed that just wants to race because it's what he was born to do versus evil corporations that just want to fix races for their own personal profits and gains. Pretty simple, but they really went overboard trying to explain it and confuse the audience. Kids will hate that.
I have one question Jonny:
