For all my life, I believed that I've watched Conan the Barbarian. This weekend, I rented the DVD from Netflix... and I realized that I actually never saw it! This is the first time I've watched movie (I think I might've seen Conan the Destroyer mixed with Willow memories). And I couldn't believe how bad ass it is. It has more testosterone than 300. So good.
I've also only read Kurt Busiek & Cary Nord's Conan #0. I need to catch up on Conan apparently...

Amazing how time can make horrible, awful, terrible things seem good.

Come on. Do you want to live forever?
Spoiler:
It's beautifully shot (like a Frazetta painting brought to life), it has fantastic music, and the Governator actually turns in an okay performance. Honestly, he's not Marlon Brando, but the ONE little speech he gives towards the end is miles beyond anything he did since then. It's like, since he was new to acting, he kinda did a good job of it by accident. Add to that James Earl Jones as one of the coolest on-screen villains of all time -- and if you consider how few lines HE has in the movie, you realize just how strong his presence is.
That's pretty much what the entire movie is. Presence. Weight. No strict adherence to the "laws" of filmmaking. No elaborate plot, no witty banter... Just images and music, and some occasional dialogue when the images and music aren't enough to get a point across.
It's like an operatic docudrama from the dark ages.
I ask you, what ISN'T to love about it??
