    Re: Some thoughts on Kabuki...

    Hi CraigM

I definitely know how you feel, the books are so filled with goodies that you want to take the time to digest them. It is indeed very emotional and I have found myself even moved to tears by its beauty.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us so openly.

I'm sorry to say that I haven't read the Reflections books. Part of it, I think, has been my natural aversion to singles - will there ever be a collected edition, or will the "Art Of" hardcovers have all that material eventually?

I've got all four and I love them! I think my favorite parts (other than the art itself) are the behind the scenes/process type stuff, and your comments on the finished pieces. Really interesting stuff.

Which of the 4 have you seen so far?

What part of them do you like best?

I have Reflections #2, 3, and 4. Like I told the guy at the comic book store, I started out reading Kabuki only in graphic novel form but now I just buy whatever has Kabuki or David Mack's name on it. I realized I was a collector when I picked up the small book Scarab: agents.

What I liked best about the Reflections is the art work that was not put in the comics. I really love the nude sketches and the undeveloped sketches that show the development of the characters.

I love the photos from the Louvre. The con photos are great but they make me very jealous because I have yet to go to a con.

I like the previews of the merchandise too especially the bust sketches.

Keep up the good work David Mack!!!

I have #2 and #5. The former of which you just gave to me at the Pittsburgh con one year after finding out I'm into art (which I greatly appreciated, by the way.) I'm still meaning to pick up #1 and 4.

My favorite parts are the sketches and seeing the progression of your paintings. Being that I don't go to school for art, I just read art books to to teach myself and the progression of the painting and such tends to be a really helpful tool. It helps a lot seeing what other artists do.

Thanks to you I got Reflections #4 and I'm really glad because it has a big lineart of the Noh tattoo! hehehe.

I enjoyed reading about the creative process. The sketches was a delightful peek into the artist as a person

I think I have 3 out of the 5 Reflections books. Not sure.
Anyway, I love them. It's nice to be able to get a glimpse into Mack's world, a behind-the-scenes so to speak.

    Glad to hear that.
Reflections #6 will be shipping in early July.
I just approved the printing proofs today.
So it is at the printer and will ship early July (first or second week)
Definitely in time for San Diego.

I tried to include a lot of the stuff in it that people were asking for and said they liked to see.
A lot of variety in this one.

My portraits of Lucy Lawless, big and small.
Photos of the live art show in Dallas.
Step by steps of the new Wolverine covers I did for Pocket books novels,
and White Tiger, and larger art, sketchbook stuff, Kabuki covers, the New Tori Amos painting and a whole lot more.

I have 4,5, and 6, and I think the best thing about them is sketches and the unused art. I love that stuff. I don't know if I have a favorite of the three I own. Great work. I think my local shop has 3, but I'd like to track down 1 and 2. I'm a bit of a completist that way.
