Yup! If you take out all that pesky frustration & trying too hard to me "cool" and replace it with a great story, great voice acting, great controls, great visuals, great music, and an epic feel.

DMC3 has everything you just listed, with much longer playtime, greater replay value, bosses that aren't total pussies, a better combo system, more varied gameplay, and insanely rewarding difficulty (a high difficulty curve that goes beyond 1. turn to stone 2. one hit kill).

Also, both games did try way too hard to be cool. At least DMC seemed aware of it.
