    Bought/Thought 3/23/05

    Hot Damn!

New Avengers #4: I had to laugh my ass off at every word out of Spider-Man's mouth. I do, however, hope that he does get a bit serious, as having every line uttered from him be a laugh riot can get a bit old.

I found the identity of the villain who was busted out a curious choice, and I can't wait to see the reason why. Special Agent Hill is a big bitch, but I like that. I hope to see her often, fucking with the team. Goregeous art, nice cover (Spider-Woman), and deilicious coloring.

Pigtale #2 A bit more is revealed about our little pig, and it seems he is in quite a pickle. Boston Brand is just cute as buttons. I totally love this book, and could see it as a cartoon series. Hell, it looks like an animated series right on the page. I liked that Ovi took the time to answer every letter personally on the letters page. If you haven't checked this book out, give it a flip through at the shop today.

Avengers Assemble Volume 2 HC And now I have even more Avengers goodness to look forward to. I have the next few days off, so I know what I will be reading.

New Avengers #4 - wish this was weekly! Another great cliffhanger.

Daredevil #71 - not what I was expecting...curious to see where it goes. The fight scene might have been a bit long.

    ooh, I forgot about DD

Daredevil #71-- There is something different about Maleev's art style here. Not sure if its softer, edier, or how to describe it, but I really enjoy it.

I liked the idea of exploring DD's reign through the eyes of other people (if that is, in fact, how the rest of the arc pans out).

Breathtaking artwork was the winner for me, here,--not that the story wasn't good, but I guess I am impatient to cast my eyes on Milla again before Bendis/Maleev leave the book.

i'm a big fan of Pigtale... there is just something about Ovi's art that draws me in... it looks simple upon a superficial glance, but once you really look at it, there is a lot of complexity there...

Runaways V2 #2 (#20): Tons of great continuity, with everything from Disassembled to Young Avengers mentioned. Shared universe continuity rocks. Oh, and the continuity just within the Runaways series is excellent also. Can't see a reason why everybody isn't reading this. 8/10

Amazing Spider-Man #518: More continuity, linking up with New Avengers. Good issue. Stuff actually happened. If they had clarified some things, I would've thought this was a great story. For instance, they never defined WHEN this story takes place. Aunt May moved out of her old house in Marvel Knights Spider-Man, but for some reason still lives there now (even though they established that this story is after MK-SM). Did she move back? It's never explained. In any of the 4 issues. I loved the interplay between Peter & Charlie throughout the two timeframes and the parallel stories were used well. Basically, Peter could've been nuts if not for the spider. This comic remains one of my favorites...but this arc had a few low points too many. 7/10

New Avengers #4 (#507): Awesome. Villain was odd choice, but I want to see where they're going with this. Love the interplay between the teammates. 9/10

Daredevil #71 (#451): Another solid issue. I like the outside look at Matt/DD, and the fill-in-the-gaps idea behind this story. I hope it goes somewhere cool. 8/10

Daredevil #71: I know I’ll probably catch hell for this, but this was the first Daredevil book I’ve ever bought. I’ll admit it was the cover that caught my interest. A friend of mine has all the hard covers, I guess I have some reading to catch up on.

New X-Men #11: Almost dropped this series after book 9, but book 10 came out on an off week (where I didn't buy many comics) so I picked it up anyways. I'm glad I did, because this last arch has really been enjoyable. It was only a 2 issue arch, but hopefully they continue to be this good.

New Avengers #4: Loved Spidey in this issue. What can I say about this series that has not already been said. Top Notch.

Manhattan Gaurdian #1: Thought this issue was pretty good, but I'm not sure if I liked it as much as Shining Knight. The story went too fast near the end and kindof lost me. Maybe after reading it again I'll like it more. Love Cameron Stewarts art.

Sin City - That Yellow Bastard TPB: God, I Love Sin City. This is the fourth Sin City TPB I've bought in the course of a week. It's like an addiction. Now I just need Family Values to finish off the new smaller trades. Anyone know if they are putting out "Hell and Back" and "Booze, Broads & Bullets" in this size?

Conan #12- Conans first battle with Thoth-Amom has come to pass. This book has gotten nothing but better since it started. I've nver read any Conan before this series. I don't know if they are close to the source material, but its damn fine reading.

Daredevil #71- I've been out of the daredevil loop for a while now. never stopped liking the book. I just had other I liked more and had to drop some titles and never picked it back up. Having scene the incredible covers Maleev has worked on in the board, I decided to jump back in. Great stuff. I'm glad I came home.

JLA Classified #5- I'm enjoying this book, but its not my favorite thing I'm buying right now. Of all the books on my hold list, this probably the first I'ld dump if I was low on funds. Its good stuff just not my fav. Also, being a book with rotating creators Ikinda wnat to stick it out to see whats coming next.

New Avengers #4-Pretty decent. Seems like a transitional issue. We finally see Wolverine (not sure if thats a good thing or a bad thing) and Jessica in her Spider-woman outfit. Umm.. thats all I hace to say about that.

Runaways #2- Lovin this book. We get some more clues a about this mystery kid and see the return of Darkhawk (don't know why I care, but I do).

Seven Soldiers: Manhattan Guardian #1- Seven Soldiers owns. Grant is great as always. Stewart.... well he's pretty good.

Shaolin Cowboy #2- I'm getting tired of writing reviews at this point, so I'll just say this has the master, Darrow. You should be buying it.

100 Bullets #59- After the amazing last issue we keep the train moving with characters who haven't gotten attention in a while and one we have just glimpsed. A slower pace is taken, but it works in contrast to the frantic nature of the last issue. Good Stuff. 8/10

Daredevil #71- This was a strong issue, but I have to say that I miss the more linear plots of other arcs sometimes. I just want to see Matt and Foggy go for drinks or something. However, I can't be dissapointed in a issue this good. The round table discussion was an interesting look at how people view DD, and Maleevs new art approch fit the style of the story well. I hope in the last arc we get time with the characters themselves before Bendis and Maleev move on. 8/10

Hellblazer #206- New art and an strange place for a Chas story made for an interesting if not life changing issue. We learn more about one of the demon kids and get a glimpse of a John in Hell type situation. Chas also gets some fleshing out, as we see him more as a man and less as John's bitchboy. 8/10

Seven Soldiers Guardian #1- I was blown away by Seven Soldiers #0, and have really enjoyed the first issues of the first two minis. Morisson brings a humanity to the characters in a few pages, and it sucks me in every time. He creates a human heart in the DC universe that makes the godly icons of Superman and Batman seems so silly and cold. 9/10

Runaways #2- I love this book. Its just fucking fantastic. First thing I read, first thing I reread. 9/10

New Avengers #4- This redeems the first 3 issues in my eyes. This was what I was waiting with a smile for. I liked every member of the team, which is saying something since I usually find Iron Man to be amazingly boring. Finch's art, which I have had problems with at times, is very well done here. I still have a problem with some of the logic of the events that led to New Avengers, and the costumes are pretty awful, but I can over look that for the most part in light of the strong writing found here. 9/10

Knights of the Dinner Table #101- Always funny, always weirdly touching. Always better when read in long form. 8/10

    New Avengers 4 : 10/10
This was an awesome issue. I loved the interaction between all of the characters. Spidey was freaking hilarious . The mystery of who was behind the prison break becomes even more intriguing as we find out who was broken out. I must say that I never would have guessed that the villian broken out would be
    Spoilers:
Sauron (the x-men villian, not the LOTR villian )

I'm very interested to see where Bendis will go with this. And last but not least, the artwork was fantastic. This issue was definitely worth the wait. I can't wait to see how Wolverine fits into all of this...

    Daredevil 71 : 9/10
This is a great start to Decalogue as we get a deeper look at how Daredevil taking over Hell's Kitchen has affected the lives of ordinary people. I thought Bendis did a nice job of establishing a voice for the junkie who served as narrator for most of the issue. Her desire to change and her faith in Daredevil felt very genuine and sincere. Maleev's artwork looks a little bit different than usual but I must say that I think it looks better than ever. The fight scene between DD and Bullet (another obscure villian I was surprised to see this week) looked especially good. And of course, the cover is just AWESOME. I can't wait to see Bendis slowly reveal more about Matt's year as the kingpin.

    Runaways 2 : 9/10
Great issue. The runaways attempt to quickly bring in Victor Mancha, but of course nothing can ever be easy for these kids. At this point, I'm really not sure who Victor's father could be. First, Victor shows powers of magnetism which would suggest it could be Magneto but I really don't think so because that would be too obvious. Then, Victor shoots a bolt of electricity and jumps really high. I know it's entirely possible that Victor could have different powers than his father, but I still get the feeling that these powers might be a clue somehow. The issue ends with a great set up for next issue. The first encounter between the runaways and Excelsior should certainly be interesting. On a sidenote, I thought the references to Hawkeye's death and the young avengers were quite amusing

    X-Men 168 : 6/10
This was definitely an improvement over the last two issues. The pacing of the story still feels a little awkward but it looks like Milligan is starting to get a little more comfortable with the characters and the team dynamic.
