Never, for the vast majority of fans. It's always been that way and it always will - people don't like change.
take ed brubaker and the new cap for example. i've seen brubaker and alex ross catching a bit of flack for the new design, especially because of the gun and knife. 2377 people voted on newsarama that it's "inappropriate". it just reminds me alot of the flack they caught when cap died, which reminded me of the flack the caught when bucky was brought back from the dead. but the thing is, all those controversial stories have paid off big time and we're getting one of the greatest cap runs in the history of the title. hasn't brubaker earned our trust at this point?
or let's take marvel events for another example. everyone is always screaming about how the events won't deliver on the hype, and then when they do, they complain about how the effects will just be reversed in the near future. well, there's still no more mutants, cap's still dead, spidey's still unmasked, and the registration act is still running strong. when will those people trust that marvel isn't just doing this stuff for hype/sales and that it's about telling great stories with real consequences?

hi...welcome to the internet

Never. Comic fans love comics. What they love even MORE than comics is bitching about comics.
Those 2,377 people probably haven't bought an issue of CAPTAIN AMERICA in decades.
i totally trust the creators. with my life.
seriously, i read certain creators andi have yet to be let down by the time the story is finished.

Never understood the flack about Cap having weapons.
Soldiers carry guns and knives, and hope to hell that they won't have to use them.
Cap is a soldier.
He does everything he can not to kill, but when necessary, he does.
That Baron Blood deCAPitation was pretty jarring when I was a kid, but I understood it was necessary.
I trust Brubaker.
Doesn't change the fact that the redesign is total shit.
