Re: Love Kills: Understanding Venom (Eddie Brock)

I wasn't aware that there was much doubt about the alien costume's love of Peter Parker. It almost sacrificed its life for Peter in Web of Spider-Man #1.

I thought the original host for Venom was supposed to be a woman who suffered a miscarriage as a result of her anger against Spider-Man.

Random aside- It'd be interesting if they did some story about someone who was Venom before Eddie Brock, but it just didn't work out that well (though it would be contrary to the beautiful image of Eddie Brock going to the church from Web #1 to pray before taking his own life.)

I do like the link (irrational hatred of Spider-Man) between Eddie Brock, and J Jonah Jameson.

I now want to see "What if Venom killed Spider-Man?" Your argument that Eddie's jealous of the symbiote's love of Peter is a novel one, but it fits perfectly.

You've got a great sense of stuff writers could explore in future Venom stories.

And I'll note how amazing it is that you made one of the most ridiculous periods in Spider-Man's history (Venom the hero) work in the larger scheme of the Spider-Man/ Venom saga.
    Sincerely,
    Thomas Mets

Something more or less similar was established in the first arc of the second volume of Spectacular Spider-Man, I believe.

In retrospect, I liked those first two arcs a lot.

    I believe so, yes.

The bowl cut doesn't really bother me that much. It's mostly the green jumpsuit thing. It looks silly.

But then, most of Spider-Man's villains have pretty stupid costumes.

I always looked at Venom as sort of a Mark David Chapman-like stalker/villain

with spidey's powers and a whole lot more.

It's not the bowlcut, it's the whole new look/crazy personality they gave him during that arc. I dug that. But from what I know he's back to regular Ock.

That was a product of Jenkins doing that thing he used to do, where he basically sort of 'reimagined' some of Spidey's villains. A lot of the times it worked (as with Venom, the Chameleon and Ock) and other times it didn't (as with the Lizard).
