(This is taken directly from the BB review group, as this is to be it's sister group, and in no way some sort of warring faction, merely a main alternative to books that aren't from the Big 2. The only criteria is that the book is NOT Marvel or DC and preferably not a superhero book, but it doesn't necessarily matter. Image and Dark Horse are acceptable. EXCEPTIONS MAY BE MADE FOR MAX, WILDSTORM OR VERTIGO TITLES, but only if they are something that everyone feels has merit over and beyond the typical comic.)

What we do: This is a fanbased review group, open to everybody.

As people post the reviews, I will add your name and score to a list in the main post and at the end of the week average the scores for an overall grade on the book. We grade on a scale of 0-10.

God knows it took us ages to get Darkness Calls #1 out, but as I write this, the big news in the horror line is the long-awaited release of Satan's Sodomy Baby, from Eric Powell. Why "long awaited"? Well, Eric first wanted to do this book over a year ago, as Goon #18, but when we saw the script, we had to beg him to do something else for Goon #18, lest the kiddies that had been reading the all-ages Goon title for so long be struck blind-and the retailers who sold it to them cast in irons and dragged off to Cade's Penitentiary. Then a lot of other things got in the way of Eric doing Satan's Sodomy Baby as a standalone title. When he finally did do it, and got it done on time, and sent to the printer . . . it just didn't come back. I made an announcement on MySpace explaining that the delayed release was due to the printer being tied up with Free Comic Book Day, but it later turned out that that was only half of the problem. Because of FCBD, the printer needed to set print runs earlier than usual; however, Dark Horse sent those print runs for the affected books when they needed them-please note that all affected books were from the horror line, with Darkness Calls #1, Rex Mundi #5, and Eric's dirty devil baby comic. Our VP, Neil Hankerson, sent those print orders out, but the e-mail never reached the printer. The printer's e-mail system has a spam blocker that kicked the word sodomy out; with the chaos of Free Comic Book Day consuming pretty much everyone in the industry, the problem wasn't noticed right away, and Eric's book got shoved even further back. It hit the stands May 16, but hopefully there are still some copies floating around, if you've got the stomach for it.

While I thought it was funny, I didn't think it was that big of a deal. It's well drawn and has some really great moments, especially the "Homosexual Ass Sex" ad and the ending, but overall, I was merely kind of bored.

Satan's Sodomy Baby #1 by Eric Powell - Wow, that was disappointing. I think Powell might have been wise to leave this one in the vault. It wasn't funny, it was forced and he was trying way too hard to be shocking or something. The whole thing just fell flat to me. The one thing I will say is Powell is one heck of an artist, but this story wasn't worth telling in my humble opinion. I know this title is zany and pushes boundaries and is absurd, but this wasn't a particularly entertaining story. If he wanted to tell it then good for him, hopefully he got it out of his system and we can move on.

I thought it was a really fun book. The very last panel had me cracking up the most, but there were other parts that made me laugh out loud. I just enjoyed the over the top nature of it. Sometimes I need that.

I've read a few Goon issues over the years, and I liked what I saw here.

I'd give it an 8 out of 10.

I think this one is victim to not being able to live up to the hype of offensive material contained within.

I agree with dEnny! with the exception of Powel being a great artist. The baby was a hoot, but the rest of the art really stunk.

I thought it was a bunch of fun. Powell really could've pushed the envelope a bit further if you ask me, but what was there was great. I love Powell's art!

I dont know what people expect from a book anymore. The art was, as always, wonderful thru out the entire book.

The story was silly, light hearted, and funny!

I think to many people expected the book to be the most shocking thing ever or something, and than since it was only your typical book filled with Eric Powell goodness, just with more stuff allowed to be in it than normal but not "OMG it changed my life!" people were dissapointed.

If you just read the book without any other expectations than it being a good read, I dont see how anyone could be let down.

But to each thier own. I thought it was pretty damn good myself.
