The last issue of the MELMOTH storyline in Cerebus.
    Spoiler:
Cerebus snaps out of his catatonia upon hearing that Jaka is being held prisoner by the Cirinists (he had been under the impression that she's dead after he returned to Rick and Jaka's place with the white paint near the end of JAKA'S STORY). In our time, almost a year of issues have passed as Cerebus sits there in front of Dino's Tavern (while we read about the failing health of Oscar) and does nothing.

He hears the Cirinist guards talking about the Palnu Princess and SNAPS! Kills the guards. Others are summoned and he flees the scene, hammering down the stairs into the Lower City with a horde of Cirinists on his tail.

Powerful imagery and completely unexpected considering how long (it felt) he'd been sitting there (probably only a week or two in his time...but for the readers it was almost a year).

    Amazing.

I have two fairly recent ones tied for top honors:

    1) Millar's UXM: The Tomorrow People pt. 3 of 6 - Wolverine's training session, in which he kills the entire team. This is the way more writers should be treating him!

    2) Whedon's AXM: Logan to Peter: "I've got two words for you . . ." An already emotional high from the previous issues suprise ending is pushed into the stratosphere when two reunited teammates perform their trademark move without missing a beat.
both great moments. i haven't read AXM so i didn't know about this scene. i've seen a pic from the ish where Logan's in the air but not the setup. that gave me chills.

seeing any Ultimate villain kick Ultimate Spider-Man's ass. especially Ultimate Carnage. when Ultimate killed Gwen Stacy, that was great. something wasn't right with her alive. Ultimate Bucky is gonna die at some point, the Ultimate Marvel line wouldn't have been right with any version of Gwen Stacy alive.

I've got two bits that have stuck with me through the years.

    1) In Alan Moore's first Swamp Thing arc, Jason Woodrue is changing the the Earth's atmosphere. The Justice League, "The Overpeople", are discussing this in their stellite. Firestorm says something along the lines of, "No problem, I'll just go convert the extra CO2 into oxygen." And Superman responds, "Do you know how many molecules are in the Earth's atmosphere? I could count them for you, if you'd like."

    2) In Morrison's first JLA arc, the white Martians have defeated and captured the Justice League, except for Batman, and are torturing Superman with green kryptonite. Superman croaks out, "You haven't defeated us all." The white Martian gloats, "Oh you mean Batman. We don't fear him. He's only a man!" And Superman whispers, "The most dangerous man on Earth."

Deadpool's second mini ish #3. he walks through gunfire to punch the Cable rip-off, Daniel Peyer. and every moment in the series with Syrin especially in ish #4 where Syrin gets him his mask and sees his face for the first time. i just love the interaction between him and Syrin.
