    LCD TV question (Fry's Electronics)

    http://shop1.outpost.com/product/5060095

Fry's Electronics has this TV on sale for only $547, and quite frankly it seems too good to be true. For those of you who know LCD TVs, is there something I'm missing here?

Well, it's an Olevia, and an Olevia 37" HDTV is usually only about $799 at this point. And it's not a TV, it's a monitor, which means you won't be able to pick channels off the air (which may or may not be a big deal to you, and probably won't be a big deal). So $699 seems like about the right price, and since it's on sale, even better.

It looks alright input-wise, but not great, although again, that may or may not be a big deal for your needs.

Yeah, the channels aren't a big deal - there's no point in getting a TV like this if you aren't going to use a cable box.

I'm not really much into home theater or anything like that, but I may be one day. Any serious deficiencies?

Well, if you're a giant nerd like me, you want to be able to pick stuff off antenna so you can record two things on your DVR and watch something live over the air at the same time, when there are three things you want to watch at the same time. Plus depending on your area, your cable provider might not currently have all of the HD channels. When I first moved here they didn't have Fox in HD, for instance, so I had to pull out the antenna and watch it over the air when I wanted to see "House" or "24" in high-def. Again, probably not a big deal for most.

Only one HDMI input is probably the biggest thing, but you could always get a switcher if you need more. Even a lot of top-of-the-line TVs only have two.
