Need help. Queston for boarders who have kids

As of late, my little sister (she's 6)has come crying home from school. She says the kids won't play with her and call her fat. She's a bit chubby I'll admit, but she's not a huge little girl. Anywho, I'm not sure how to help her, and I hope we can all agree that opening a can of whup ass on 6 year olds is a bad idea.

stomp the little bastards and then scrape em off your shoe.

oh, and try and find her at least 1 or 2 friends (ask your parents to find other parents with kids in the same class and set em up on playdates). at least its a start... its hard to convince a kid that things will get better. but at least try and get her active. and show lots of love.

Explain that kids can be mean and hurtful becasue they are insecure of themselves and it makes them feel better to make someone else feel bad about themselves. It's a defense mechanism and anyone with traits that don't fit into the 'norm' are easy targets. Tell her she is beutiful and you love her and it doesn't matter what the kids say because they are just lashing out for other reasons. It has nothing to do with her, they have just decided to use her to make themselves feel better.

Or buy her an ice cream. It always makes me feel better.

I'll keep trying to reassure her and show her lots of love. Hopefully she'll feel better soon. I'm not sure why its become a problem this late in the school year. The teasing has gotten so bad that she's actually quit eating ice cream

in all seriousness, this is the time to try to drill into her head that people are, by and large, stupid and not worth the energy it takes to worry about what they think of her. for the most part, they don't mean what they say...they're following the leadership of one alpha queen b who has to make herself feel big by making others feel little. it sucks right now but it'll get better. be the person she wants to be, the person you've raised her to be, and be sure that someone will see how worthwhile she is.

and teach 'er to read 'cause she might be eating alone until everyone else catches up with her. sad but true.

Keep telling her she is beautiful so she doesn't let those kids let her down. It may seem like you're not helping but I really wish a friend of mine had had someone who looked out for her like you are looking out for your sister.

My friend was teased as a child about being fat so she finally just figured since she was fat it woudn't matter what she ate or if she worked out etc. Now she actually is obese. And she realizes looking back at pictures she wasn't actually fat back then and if she had taken better care of herself then her health would be better now.

Don't let your sister give up on herself.

Often times, kids pick on targets they think won't fight back. Find out the kids targeting your sister, and advise her on what to call them the next time they pick on her. Try to find something really cutting. It's not exactly mature, but once they see that she's going to fight back, odds are they'll move on to another target. It's the order of the wild.
