Preacher, Transmetropolitan, Lucifer, Invisibles, Starman, Promethea, Sandman, soon to be Planetary, Y the Last Man, and 100 Bullets.

Notice that only one of these titles was considered a "mainstream Superhero" title. (THough Starman was anything but). Are creators just not given enough freedom on "universe" books to create something truly great? Most of the good superhero stories are either fringe or elseworld-type books.

Succubi. Zombies. Superheroes. The far future and the wild west. They're all inside the Fall '06 issue of Warrior27, the anthology of comics, prose, criticism, and more. Including an interview with Chris Staros from TopShelf Productions and WHY I HATE BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS. 48 pp. $2.95. On the Fly Publications. Don't miss it!

Very few of them tell one big finite story, so there aren't many qualifiers.

    Good call! Very underappreciated series.

I hoping that one day, we'll be able to say that Miracleman is one of the greatest completed series. *sigh*

Assuming we're not talking about miniseries, I'd go with Alias, definitely. It's amazing, for me.

    Also, Nextwave.

I need to check out Lucifer again sometime when I can afford it. I've only read the first couple trades.
