    I've never read Fables...but I think I might start

My question is...should I start with the prequel 1001 Nights of Snowfall or should I start with the the first trade and read the prequel later in the run?

I'd wait for the hardcover. The introduction of characters in the regular book is perfect. You won't miss anything starting there. When you get to know them, you can read the hardcover, get a new little peek at them, and appreciate them a little bit more.

Either way though, it's a really great series.

Just start with the regular trades. And you have no idea what you've been missing out on. It's great shit, probably the most consistent book in the market right now.

    Love Fables. Read it now.

And it seems like it comes out every week too, which is nice.

i'd read the first few collections first and read snowfall when you get to the arabian nights arc. you'd be safe either way, but it only serves to amplify snowfall when you already know the characters as they are now.

Over on Millarworld someone started a thread about if you could only read one comic the rest of your life, what would it be?

Fables is the number one choice.

It was a pretty wide spectrum of things after that, but I would say 60% of the people who answered said fables.

It's really top notch, and the stories are so varied in style and substance that it is never repetitive or boring.
