    Bloomberg for president?

    Wonder what Rudy thinks?

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is meeting with pollsters and consultants to assess his chances at winning the White House as an independent candidate. Political adviser Kevin Sheekey told Newsweek: "There is no Bloomberg campaign. But we have certainly reached out." Sheekey adds that whether he runs "depends on who the nominees are for the two major parties, and how much cash Bloomberg is willing to spend."

He'd have to be unbelievably dumb to try at this point. He and Rudy are very tight, and they appeal to the exact same base. He'd have zero base of support if Rudy was the GOP nominee? He'd do Nader 2004 numbers.

If the GOP nod goes to someone else, though, he could build a base.

I don't think I'd say the appeal to the same exact base. Bloomberg would appeal to the financially conservative way more than Guliani would. During his first election obviously Bloomberg got elected as someone from the Rudy mold, but he's definitely distinguished himself since then. I'd be intrigued by Bloomberg, but not Guliani.

Rudy's endorsement and Mark Green being a complete moron got Bloomy elected in the first place, Rudy will have him wacked if he does this...im sure of it.

Bloomberg has been a good mayor, and different from Giuliani. But at the end of the day, they're both socially liberal, economically conservative, tough-on-terror centrists. The only thing that Bloomberg brings to the picture that Giuliani doesn't is corporate experience and more nanny-stating.
