I didn't know Payback has a really dark directors cut coming out

I was bored and I ended up watching the really chopped up Network Television edit of Payback, which I always dug (though I preferred the original version, Lee Marvin's "Point Blank"). But I got curious and checked out Wikipedia about Payback. And I guess in April, there's a Payback:Straight Up director's cut.

So, I googled it and I guess this director's cut is very different from the theatrical cut, because the studio reshot like a third of what the original director filmed. But, I guess the original director's cut has a different villian, Kris Kristoferson (sp?) never even appeared, neither did the boxing match kidnapping plot. And it's apparantly alot darker. Porter I guess beats the shit out of his ex-wife and the dog does get killed (but I don't know, I haven't seen it).

    Anyone else heard about this?

Is that the one with Mel Gibson? I've never seen it but when the D.C. comes out it might be a good chance to do so.

Yeah, I kinda had a problem with that movie pussing out a bit in places.

I always get that movie mixed up with that Nic Cage movie...Gone in 60 Seconds or something or other.

watched this on showtime recently. kris kistofferson was in it, albeit not very much, and the boxing match kidnapping plot was pretty integral to it.

You're probably talking about something else, because Gone in 60 Seconds is about car thieves.

Yeah, but it's not even in the director's cut. The entire last act is totally different.

Seeing this movie was a surreal experience for me, because I was in France, and it was almost impossible to turn off the instinct to read subtitles. So they were talking in English, but I was reading the French subtitles, and then translating in my head to English. And I'd catch myself and stop it, but then when I got into the movie and stopped thinking about it, there I'd be, reading the damned subtitles again.

And the only reason I went to the movie in the first place was that the theater had internet terminals (hard to find in France in 1997), and I wanted to check my email.
