The lack of a main character death (at least one) is a huge problem IMO.
No one in this thread has made an even slightly valid argument against that that problem either.
I guess I'm not quite seeing the issue. Barring Starbuck and Apollo, most of the leads are effectively shielded from frontline combat. With the Cylons, it seems like they dole out killing on a mass scale - talking about planetary or capital ship destruction - or not at all. There's just not a lot of whittling down of humans on a small scale, what with terrorist attacks being minimal and man-to-man combat being extremely rare.
Admittedly, I think they've cheaped out a few times with close-calls likeSpoilers:and that tends to make viewers skeptical anytime death looms over a major character. That is a bit of an issue. Still, I don't think it's that big a stretch that the major players haven't gotten killed. Most of them are leader-types in one way or another, and those are precisely the folks who usually survive wars.
Adama's shooting or the President's cancer (especially the President's cancer)
All the major characters have gotten really close to dying at least once (no matter if they're pilots or commanders or Presidents), and each time they've been snatched from the brink as you pointed out.
That idea wears really, really thin when its used that much, and makes the fact that no title character has died even more glaring.
Gaeta, Billy, Dee, Cally, Anders, Tigh's wife, Tom Zarek, etc could all have been raised to positions of greater importance in the show.
I don't WANT any of the main characters to die.
But in an fairly realistic war drama, someone NEEDS to.
Yeah, enough bickering among the Cylons. Time for them to ruthlessly clean house, and re-emerge with a singular, devastating vision against humanity!
