    Time Life Christian Music

So they keep running this Time/Life Christian music commercial on cable and they play a music clip of this song, "God of Wonders." I am not religious, but just the snippet they play bugs the hell out of me.

    Here is the chorus:

    God of wonders
    Beyond our galaxy
    You are holy, holy
    The universe
    Declares your majesty
    You are holy, holy

Ok, so first, "Beyond our galaxy?" I don't recall the bible ever bringing up astronomy. I thought God lived in Heaven. Is heaven in another galaxy, or is he just visiting Alpha Centuri on vacation or something? If he isn't in our galaxy, wouldn't that make him further removed from humanity? I guess this would answer Kirk's question from Star Trek V--"What does God need with a starship?"

"You are holy." You are writing a song praising your diety and the most descriptive thing you can think of is calling him holy? Isn't that pretty much by definition? This seems like telling your wife on Valentine's day: "Dear, to me, you are female."

"The Universe declares your majesty." Really? From the CIA:
    Religions:
    Christians 33.03% (of which Roman Catholics 17.33%, Protestants 5.8%, Orthodox 3.42%, Anglicans 1.23%), Muslims 20.12%, Hindus 13.34%, Buddhists 5.89%, Sikhs 0.39%, Jews 0.23%, other religions 12.61%, non-religious 12.03%, atheists 2.36% (2004 est.)

Looks like only a thrid of the planet declares his majesty, and that is a combination of 4 different factions. Kind of over-reaching there, aren't we?

Am I the only one bothered by this song?

    Re: Time Life Christian Music

The only Christian song you'll ever need:

    Jesus was way cool
    Everybody liked Jesus
Everybody wanted to hang out with him
Anything he wanted to do, he did
    He turned water into wine
    And if he wanted to
He could have turned wheat into marijuana
    Or sugar into cocaine
    Or vitamin pills into amphetamines

    He walked on the water
    And swam on the land
    He would tell these stories
    And people would listen
    He was really cool

If you were blind or lame
    You just went to Jesus
And he would put his hands on you
    And you would be healed
    That's so cool

He could've played guitar better than Hendrix
    He could've told the future
He could've baked the most delicious cake in the world
He could've scored more goals than Wayne Gretzky
He could've danced better than Barishnikov
Jesus could have been funnier than any comedian you can think of
    Jesus was way cool

He told people to eat his body and drink his blood
    That's so cool
    Jesus was so cool
But then some people got jealous of how cool he was
    So they killed him
But then he rose from the dead
He rose from the dead, danced around
    Then went up to heaven
    I mean, that's so cool
    Jesus was way cool

No wonder there are so many Christians

not only do they say "holy" once, they repeat it. Yeah, I've been bothered by those commercials before. I know one of them has a song called "awesome God". Was this song written by a 6 year old in the early 90's?

    Jesus war ein guter Mann
    der hatte einen Umhang an
    Jesus war ein flotter Typ
    den haten alle Leute lieb

    Jesus hatte langes Haar
    und braune Augen wunderbar
    Jesus hatte Latschen an
    wie kein andrer Mann

    Jesus Jesus
    du warst echt O.K.
    Jesus Jesus
    everytime fair play!

    Jesus war ein Wandersmann
    am liebsten auf'm Ozean
    ja und seine Zaubershow
    hatte wirklich Weltniveau

Ja aus Wasser machte er Wein
wer will da nicht sein Kumpel sein?
    Aus einem Brötchen wurden zwei
    Mensch komm doch mal vorbei!

    Jesus Jesus
    du warst echt O.K.
    Jesus Jesus
    everytime fair play!

    Re: Time Life Christian Music

We sing this one in our church. Like most of today's church songs, it's very trendy and not nearly as cool as the old hymns, but no one wants to sing those, so whatever.

As someone said, Christians believe God created the earth and the rest of the universe, and doing something that amazing is a testament to his power.

Calling him holy seems obvious, but throughout the Bible (like in the Psalms and elsehwere), God's followers would repeat his attributes back to him. In prayer and in song, the religious person thanks God for his love and power and his compassion.

    Hope this helps.

I don't like Christian music, but do we really need to talk against it?

I am not talking against Christian music. I don't have a problem with that.

I am talking against this song writer's writing abilities.
