Jubilee as an instructor in the Initiative? *speculation*

Okay, this is just pure speculation. Jubilee is powerless. She just recently got picked up by shield for something in some wolverine title. I don't read wolverine titles, so I don't know the details. Now, we know she's set to become a major character in an upcoming book. That's been stated somewhere. And Joe Q. has said that she will NOT be getting her powers back.

Now, I know the easy, simple thing would to put her as an instructor in X-Men. But I think it'd be a really great idea to throw her into the Initiative, helping young teens get control of their powers. Being in the X-mansion would just remind her that she lost her powers. Plus, I'm sick of comics taking the easy way *coughSpider-manInNewAvengerscough*. I want something new. I want something different. Zima, people. Zima.

Nice idea, but it seems a bit unlikely what with far more experienced (and, for that matter, active) Avengers like Hank Pym and Jim Rhodes on the team.

PS How is Spider-Man in the Avengers "taking the easy way"? In many ways it's a much tougher thing to do - selling such a massive shift to the readership at large, for one thing.

I meant keeping him in new Avengers, along with Wolverine, keeping it packed with the top characters to keep sales up, rather than having it sell on story and art alone. Don't mind me. I just really wish when the roster changed, there would've been actual significant changes. instead we get Dr. Strange for Sentry. An ultimate power for an ultimate power. And Iron Fist for Cap. Hand to hand fighter for a hand to hand (and shield) fighter. And an extra Ronin. Woo.

Oh, and the massive shift? It was done by killing some Avengers in rapid fire succession. With a bunch of unrelated tie-ins thrown in. And then saying Wanda did it. Bam, throw a bunch of big names together with a few no-names. Massive shift complete.

What Jubilee has is a lot better understanding of what the kids are going through, because she went through it herself. We saw from the previews that there are young teens dealing with new powers. Jim Rhodes and Hank Pym never went through that. They got their powers as adults, of their own volition.

This book also has Justice, though, who DID go through that.

Given that Joe Q has talked about Jubilee being a significant player in some upcoming book, I think if she was going to be in THE INITIATIVE we'd have heard about it by now.

While you're right that some of the power level issues have not changed much in the new roster, it is hardly fair or accurate to suggest that Dr. Strange and Sentry or Cap and Iron Fist are interchangeable characters. Replacing those *characters*, with their personalities, subplots, and roles in the team do count as significant changes to the book and the team dynamic.

As for keeping the big names like Spidey and Wolverine in the group, it is true that sales are a factor in such things...but there is also the fact that Bendis likes the character and wants to use him. And with everything that is happening to Spidey and his relationship to the other Avengers characters in Civil War, there are stories to be told about him there, so leaving him in the mix makes good story sense. If anyone's presence in that book is more sales-motivated, it is Wolverine.

All of the New Avengers (with the sole exception of Captain America) will still be Avengers after Civil War (frankly, most of them will still be New Avengers). It's not like Spidey is an exception here.

And as Dermie has pointed out, it's not like these characters are remotely interchangable - I don't think they have anything in common in terms of personality. The entire set-up will be completely different, too.
