Changes in the density of fat also change the resistance on an electrical current run through the fat tissue. My guess is that it is measuring the amount of water in the tissue, and thus your measured BMI could fluctuate depending on profusion of the tissues in your feet or renal function etc.
I usually go with a standard table of BMIs, but that's just me. I just passed a milestone going from a 30 to 29 (I'm officially just overweight and not obese) I'm down to 230 from 300 in August, so any of you guys thinking about giving up, it can be done, you just have to stay positive and eventually you'll start seeing the results (as well as parts of your body you haven't seen in a while.
)
