i just got done reading it, and yet again, i am in awe of your work. this is one of the few books out there that gets better with every issue. i loved the inclusion of a book within a book, which reinterates the layers within layers this story provides again. i'm glad that i stopped waiting for what i expected to come next to happen and just let the story wash over me. i love how such simple art can convey the story just as well as the detailed art can. that says a lot for a story that can change art direction from page to page and still be as strong as if it had stayed the same throughout.

i guess i will have to add this to my list of comics that made me cry. reading about how you can make yourself into whoever you want was something i didn't want to hear. i've felt like i've been in such a rut, because of the direction my life has taken. i've wanted to change my life around for a while now, but i felt like this is the way things have to be. after reading this, i'm inspired to take the time and find out just what i want out of life. no more excuses!

thanks david, for yet again helping me discover something about myself that i might not have otherwise. if you keep this up, i might be able to recognize myself in a year. but then again, that might not be such a bad thing ;)

i loved it david! i really like the cover to this one, and the alternate cover was pretty cool too. your stuff always blows me away.

my favorite part, of course, was seeing my name in the "thank you" section! that was awesome. it was pretty funny when i was looking through the list, though -- i was giving mandy shit all day because my dad, claire, and I were all listed and she wasn't! hehehe

her friend who saw it too was like, "omg did you guys break up or something??" that made me laugh pretty hard.

I'm glad you liked it. And glad you liked seeing your name in it. :)

OF COURSE I included Mandy in the thank you list!!
Her full name is mentioned first, right before you and your dad and Claire and the Beckett crew.
And it mentions her website, and my acknowolegements to the book club she started with her acting class.

Didn't you see it? I'm looking at it right now.
How did her friend miss it?
That must have made Mandy feel terrible if her friend said that.

I've got to be a dissenter in regard to this issue. With this current series, I'm just not feeling the love for the story as I've felt for the previous 10 years worth of Kabuki (and Agents) stories.

There is too much blatant telling of what the overall story is...too much product placement or referral...it just seems like a dumbing down of what the series previously was and I was very saddened that I even felt this way, having been there from the beginning. Four issues in and I'm telling myself that, if the series stays the course, it'll be my final Kabuki-centered series. I'll totally be getting whatever Agents books come out because they won't be written in the same format as this, but my thoughts have been brewing in this manner for a while now with this storyline.

The art is beautiful and always will be. But I actually found myself wanting to skip dialogue because as a long time reader, I either KNEW it already or just felt that it shouldn't have been in there. Had I not known David, I likely wouldn't have even posted this or said anything, but with my love for the book and appreciation of the man himself, I needed to release these thoughts.

sorry to read lombardi's post, this is my first series, and it's often been said that I'm the target audience on this one, I'll have to read #4 again to see what lombardi means about product placement, totally over my head the first read.

for me #4 was fantastic, the best peice of mack!'s work I've encountered.
in the thin pages of a disposable monthly i've been confronted with the things I've been wrestling with for the past eight years, I was unsure of what I was thinking, believing and doing, but they've just been confirmed as right... in a comic book!
I was taking the whole "guide to life" tag with a pinch but from page 7 I been turned around (page 4 was where it really starts)
I just connected with so many things in this issue, had so many personal thoughts confirmed, and had my ignorance of other points opened to new perspectives as well.

to go back to lombardi, in the few pieces of mack!'s work I've read so far, I've always thought that the author was speaking to the reader via the characters he's working with, that they were/are just a front, like I said I haven't read anywhere near all, this issue actually confirms this veiw point I've had.

looking forward to whatever happens next.

Hey AvidFan,

We can all have our own opinions. :) That is the beauty of life. I'm not going anywhere in regard to this series because at the very least with me, Dave gets the benefit of my fanboy doubt.

Like I said, I've collected the characters since their inception. For it to take 10 years for me not to like an issue or few...is goddamn impressive. ;)

If you like this series, you'll only love past minis. Check'em out.

hey lombardi,

hope there was no confusion, I was hoping to be sympathetic to you having spent 10 (!) years reading mack's work and finding #4 not up to the standard you've enjoyed, as I thought that this was the best peice of work I've read so far.

can't wait to get the rest of his work

#4 is awesome. Truly inspiring, and just amazing to look at. This might be my favorite issue so far.

My Mom read it and really enjoyed it, too. She loved the biography section, so I might end up buying that for her when the book comes out. :D

Also, I had a letter in it. That was really cool.

I've found that using the internet to read about comics before I've got them has spoilt my enjoyment of the genre, it's just not as much fun as when I was a kid (hmmm, now where have I heard that before?) when there was no internet to give me info and opinion...

now that I've read my copy of #4, I've been reading some of the mb reviews and there are lots of cool and insightful comments, more than I could say or think. it must be exrememely rewarding to see your work talked about at such a high level. imo I don't think JMcLauchlin will be out of pocket!

for the Mark Millar fans out there that live in scotland, there's a prog on STV1 tonight called 'The Talent' which has an interview with him, 7:30pm national tv time, should be fun.

edit: ps - thanks for the letter ;)
