View Full Version : What do you want to see from Dan in 2007?

It's the start of a new year and Dan Slott has three projects he's working on for Marvel - She-Hulk, Avengers: The Initiative and an as yet unannounced secret project. Within those three, what sort of things do you want to see in Dan's stories?

To get the ball rolling, I want to see proper follow ups with the supporting cast members that have temporarily left the She-Hulk book. A common problem in serial fiction is for a cast member to disappear for a while, then return fundamentally changed as a result of interesting adventures that we never get to see. I really hope that doesn't happen with Sasha, Andy and John when they eventually return. I want to see how Southpaw has been living on the lam and how it's affecting her outlook on life. I'd love to follow Andy's quest to find himself in every detail. I really, really want to see John struggle to deal with the realization that being the Stargod isn't a job he can resign from, as well as the benefits and burdens that come with that role.

A proper follow up can be anything from a one page montage flashback to a full issue focusing on the character in question. Indeed, I'm hoping that Dan's secret project is an Awesome Andy miniseries or a Stargod ongoing. :)

I want to see what the "hook" is for Avengers: The Initiative.

There has to be a reason why all these creators are predicting big things for this book.

What is it?

I have a very simple request---keep the She-Hulk stories entertaining and the book going until 2008! (Hopefully longer!)

i'd like to see more one-off cases for She-Hulk like in the earlier issues. i like overarching plots and the like but i miss the fun done in one stories.

That would be nice too. Jump on points are always welcome.

I liked how in series one there was a new story pretty much every issue but you had these big overarching plots that paid off over time. Series two has been a lot more fluid, and I'm not sure I'm so keen on that. (I also thought a few issues in 2006 have been pretty weak, on the really high She-Hulk scale.)

Yeah, more stories like the Hercules case and the Spidey case.

After reading in his Wizard interview with Bendis how big of a Moon Knight fan he is, I'd want to see Dan on that.

Yeah, more stories like the Hercules case and the Spidey case.

Those were stand-outs.

I would love to see something like that again.

I think returning to the style of vol. 1 with more of those fun, done-in-one style issues would be taking a step backwards really. I loved the Hercules and Spidey stories, but I'm also really keen on the current "epic-ness" of SHE-HULK. That doesn't mean there isn't a place for standalone issues (like the current excellent Awesome Andy one), though, I just think the fun court cases have finished for a while.

Oh, and above all I'd like to see the Reckoning War! :o

I don't understand how it is a step backwards.
Sideways at worst.
It is just a story telling style that I would like to see more of.

The lawyer stuff is what made the title unique. Superhuman Law. It was great. With more of a move towards action and drama, there is less to set it apart from other monthly titles. Sure, I'll still read it. But I liked the early stuff better.

I want to see the Reckoning War too, but I suspect we won't see it until 2008.

Let's see...

First off, I hope to see AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE do well. I love the idea of seeing Dan writing more of my favourite Avengers characters. :) I'd especially like to see him do something more with Living Lightning. Miguel is a character with plenty of potential, and I've bene hoping for Dan to do more with him since his cameo in GLX.

Speaking of whom, I'd like to see more of the Great Lakes Champions. A guest spot in SHE-HULK would be great, but I'd really love to see another one-shot like GLX-Mas, or another miniseries.

I'd like to see Wyatt Wingfoot turn up for a reunion with Jen. I don't expect Dan would put them back together as a couple (although I'd love that too), but he is still a good friend of hers, and with everything that she's gone through lately I think seeing him could do her some good.

I know that we aren't likely to see the Reckoning War in 2007, but I am very much looking forward to that, and I hope to see some more build-up to it this year. And when the time comes, I hope Starfox is one of the participants helping Shulkie in the war. After all, we know that the War extends beyond just Earth, and Starfox is a cosmic character who is a friend and ally of Jen and who has already been introduced and established with SHE-HULK readers.

Back before SHE-HULK v2 started, Dan said he had a story in mind for a Blizzard case. I'd like to see Dan tell that story, since poor Blizzard is at loose ends since Fabian's run on T-BOLTS is over.

And since Two-Gun Kid is part of the SHE-HULK cast now, I'd like to see Dan do a story with him and some of the other western heroes, clearing up the whole Rawhide Kid mess. Some of you may remember that when the A-Z Marvel Handbook did the new Rawhide Kid profile last year, there was some difficulty trying to mesh the original version of the Rawhide Kid with the gay version introduced a few years back, because the two have contradictory continuity but Marvel's official position is that the gay Rawhide IS the official 616 Rawhide Kid.
Since Dan has proven himself to be one of Marvel's more continuity-conscious writers, and has used old continuity to good effect in new stories, I was hoping that he might be able to do something to clean up the Rawhide situation. Perhaps there were two Rawhide Kids? After all, if we can have 4 Captain Marvels, 3 Ant-Mans, 4 Goliaths, etc, etc, I don't think two Rawhide Kids is out of the question. In any case, I'd love to see what Dan could come up with, and what interesting adventure Shulkie and Two-Gun could get into while we find out. :)

As long as the She-Hulk stories are fun to read and the title keeps going, I'm not going to be picky about what I ask from Dan. But I would love to read a "flashback" story set during the Savage She-Hulk period which would show Dan's take on that era. But if it doesn't happen, I won't go crying in my beer. After all, Dan Slott isn't the one keeping Art Monk out of the Hall of Fame.

You mean Vol. 3 and Vol. 4. :) It isn't a "sudden" interest. I have been a fan of the She-Hulk since her first series, and I own two complete sets of The Savage She-Hulk.

Sounds like you missed vol 2 #10 :)

And I didn't just mean by you... this must be at least the third request for SAVAGE nosalgia material I've seen this week, and I've hardly ever seen it before.

I didn't miss it---I just respectfully disagree with Dan writing as Stu. :)

Seriously, I do not want to turn back the clock so that Jennifer is a struggling lawyer in L.A. who can't control her changes into her alter ego. Dan Slott is by far the best writer Jennifer has ever had, and I am INCLUDING John Byrne. But the recent article by Scott Tipton forced me to face some of the weaknesses of the original series, although my memories of that book are tinted by memories and adolescent hormones. I cannot help but wonder how Dan would rewrite some of those original stories keeping in mind what the character and series have become. I think that in Dan's hands, Buck would be a more believable jerk than the cartoon parody of the male chauvinist he appears to be now. I would have liked to see the quiet thoughtful Jen Walters we see today in books rather than the uptight, volatile woman who loses her temper at the slightest annoyance. But if this never happens, I'll enjoy the ride to wherever Dan wants me to go...

But really, Eddie, it IS the only thing that makes sense. Yes, this is She-Hulk's 4th solo book, but they weren't all the same series. Would "Mighty Avengers" be "Avengers vol. 5"? That would mean Avengers vol.4 and vol.5 are coming out at the same time, since New Avengers would be volume 4.

As long as this book keeps going, it doesn't matter if they call it She-Hulk Vol. 99!
