Are Kubrick the same people who do the Minimates?

Nope... 2 different companies. Kubricks are from Medicom and Minimates are from Art Asylum. Kubricks have less articulation and are a bit more on the cute side than Minimates.
Most Kubricks are released in Japan only with the exception of some Diamond Comics imports.

Nice scores Modok! :D
My most recent Kubrick acquisition is Star Wars series 7.

The chase figures are a Blue Royal Guard, Yak Face and a flesh Anakin. Very cool series.

The Gammorean Guard has too many original sculpted pieces, and looses the charm of the block figure template.

Ugh, I hate their "pectoral" add-ons. Really doesn't work in my mind. Although I think I need this Superman to go with my Keaton Batman.

Hmm... interesting point about the chest. I have mixed feelings about adding that to the toy. What bugged me about the Hulk Minimate that came out a few years ago was that he didn't have one, so Banner with the labcoat add-on was bulkier :( What Art Asylum should have done was release Hulk as a larger scale Minimate (using the same scale as the Lord of the Rings Minimates).

They were unable to make larger mini-mates. Their Marvel license was for 2 inch tall figures. Anything larger was out. This is why the extra-large Galactus and Sentinel Mini-mates are statues, not figures. I'm sure if they could, they would have used the mixed-scales like the LOTR minimates.
The charm of block minifigures is what can be accomplished using only paint, and few clothing and hair add-ons. Once you start sculpting individual pieces, then the lose their uniformity, and their charm. For example, a few years ago, Playmates did a set of Simpsons block figures, but each figure was made from completely different pieces. A total failure of the idea. I'm also not a fan of Mez-its by Mezco, with their sculpted heads. Again, too much individuality, not enough uniformity.

Never knew that the Galactus and Sentinel statues was due to licensing. Do you work for a toy company?
I agree about all the custom parts. The Lego mini-figures have tons of custom parts now.

Nah, I just spend too much time on the internet.
The reason that Art Asylum invented the 2-inch scale for the Marvel Mini-mates was due to the liscense. Before Marvel, all the minimates that they did (Star Trek, Bruce Lee, Kiss) were 3 inches, but they couldn't get a 3-inch liscense for Marvel, but they could get a 2-inch liscense. So they invented a new scale.
