View Full Version : Ever been on the nasty side of a rumor at work?

I ask the question because I currently am on the nasty side of a rumor at my job. I work as a special ed. teacher at a VERY small school. It's my first year there, and my wife works there too.

Well, my wife drops a huge bomb on me tonight asking me if I knew about the rumor going around the school of me and my ed tech having more than a working relationship. She was obviously upset, but I convinced her that the thought has never even entered my head. I mean, my ed. tech. works with me awesomely, she and I have a great working relationship where we tell each other our opinions constantly without fighting, but ewww--Her friggen daughters are closer to my age than she is. And how brazen and stupid of me would it be to cheat on my wife with a co-worker, when my wife is working not 50 feet away from me?

I think that rumors like this are ridiculous. This kind of stuff ruins good working relationships in the work place, which lowers morale, and could have damaged my relationship with my wife.

Sorry, I had to get this stuff off my chest.

Supposedly, I'm married...to a girl...that use to work there and whom I've yet to meet.

This is quite disturbing, considering you work with teachers, who have the responsibility of aiding children in their mental growth and maturation. You would think they would be much more professional people in regards to their conduct, even if it is a circumstance with an adult faculty member.

Seriously, I'm sorry for you. I hope this dies off quickly.

HA! I swear that most teachers become teachers to gossip along with the kids. Who is sleeping with who, what was said....you name it. It IS a high school where the drama doesn't stop with the kids.

I'm not going to say anything to anyone about the rumor, and continue doing my job, and treating everyone how I've treated them all along. I'm above this shit.

I like to start weird rumors about myself at work. It always keeps my coworkers off balance as to what to believe about me.

Is the old lady hot or something? Or is it that she is the only person you work around who isn't mentally handicapped?

Just tell them that your screename on the Bendis board is The Robot Lord of Tokyo and I'm sure that your coworkers would be kept off balance enough. :)

About 6 months in, I was accused of stealing 150 bucks total from various purses in the break room.

Luckily, there were cameras everywhere and I was cleared.

But that didn't stop everyone from talking about me behind my back. Which seriously pissed me off.

Good god no to all.

1: She's from Jersey and works in a hick school in central MAINE.
2: She's got 3 daughters who are all teenagers, and a couple of them like to sleep in the same bed with their mother. creepy.
3: She's got a black belt and could seriously kick my ass 50 times over.
4: She's a New york Jets fan.
5: Her favorite motto: "Boys are icky" to which I respond "girls are stinky."
6: She's divorced (twice, I think), and god only knows about her husband now.

But, you know what. Above all, she's an awesome person, and is a great worker.

i was on the same end of a similar rumor. evidently i was shacking up with this chick in college. she was furious. livid at the very concept of the rumor. i didn't appreciate so many people butting into my business, but was largely okay with it.

My girlfriend works down the hall in sales and there are a lot of snide comments about us and how she gets certain breaks because of me.

I have another female friend in sales. She's about 15 years older than me, but we became pretty close a few years ago. I think there's a general assumption that something happened between us, although nothing ever did. She also gets the snotty treatment that I'll do whatever she wants because we're such great friends.

Uhg, High School. A place where the rumor mill churns at full speed all the time. Small town's are also real bad about gossip and rumors simply because they have nothin' better to do. I live next door to the worst rumor spreader.

I've had a few rumors spread about me. But one that always made me laugh is I had a lady ask me how much money I had, because in the newspaper I had 3 property transfer listed in my name.

Basically our neighbor must of thought we were the Donald Trump's of Altamont but we are just hiding it really well.

Teachers can be the worst for that shit.
I was rather ill for a number of months, one of my "colleagues" started the rumour that it was due to me being an alcoholic.

It took me having to actually go to senior members of staff and tell them it was bullshit after I came upon the rumour monger telling the deputy principle that my reason for being absent was vodka.

Honestly though, I wouldn't reiterate this because proximity of wife to mistress and age has never meant much when it comes to adultery.

Not in my career jobs..at least I don't think so.

When I was in college I was accused of flirting with these 15 year old girls who were there during the summer for camp, it was a program to provide scholarships to kids from the Appalachian. I had a girlfriend and they WERE FIFTEEN! There is a big difference between friendly and flirting. Personally I think this older lady wanted to create drama, deflect from the fact she was ALWAYS hanging out with this college aged kid, eating with him.

Yeah... been there.

I'm a flirty guy and I tend to make friends with ladies very easily... I got to be really close with a co-worker and our other co-worker was extremely jeleous... so she started telling everyone that the friend and I were sleeping together.

I ended up getting fired for something I didn't do and then getting hired by that companys sister company. I immediatly had the friend quit and come work with me, which fueled the rumor ten fold.

She eventually found another job closer to home and I dont talk to her anymore... but people I talk to from either place still insist that I had some form of relationship with her, which I didnt.

No, but generally speaking if a guy cheats on his wife it's with a younger and or hotter woman.
