"Reading Rainbow" has been on the air for about 20 years now solely because Burton keeps it going.

Pretty cool if you ask me.

I can go anywhere if it's in a book. Just take a look.

And the whole "turning thousands upon thousands of kids onto the cool that is books" thing also rocks.

My mom would be so pissed that all her banana hair clips were missing...then she found out I was running around with them taped to my head like Geordi.

Aww, man. I thought I would be the first one to mention this. He told everyone in the audience that it was his 'other job.' I was just a child but I remember thinking, "Damn, you! Brother gets to read books and go across the galaxy for his career? Fuck being a fireman. I want to be him when I grow-up!"

After years of trying I am still white and not a resident of the twenty-fourth century

You're only as white as you think you are.

Levar taught me that with a little book called "You're Only As White As You Think You Are."

Taking it full-circle....

When I was teaching, I showed a few episodes of "Reading Rainbow" to my first graders and they loved it. After two decades it's still a damn good show.

Way to be, Levar!

The episode he goes to the set of ST:TNG and the one where he tries on the different magic hats in the hat store are my favorites.

I loved Reading Rainbow as a kid, and really enjoyed Star Trek for a lot of years. The fact that he's done Reading Rainbow for so long is pretty cool.

Reading Rainbow was one of my favorite shows when I was growing up. Its probably why I love to read so much. I used to have my mom take me to the library so I could try and find the books that I saw on Reading Rainbow. My favorite episode was the one when Levar went to work at the diner and he was trying to learn the waitress slang and was getting it all wrong and people were getting the most disgusting orders. Hilarity indeed.

Tru Dat. Levar Burton is the man.

I just went back and watched most of ST:TNG on DVD and I forgot how much I loved Geordi's character.

I think it ended back in 2004, actually. But Burton did a one-off special last year. Still, it ran from 1983 to 2004-- hell of a run!

NO! They had new episodes last year, and are filming a handful for 2006 as well! Insane and wonderful!

"Reading Rainbow" is one of those things that make me hate the world less.

He was only good about 50% of the time on TNG... but it was a fun 50%. I liked him better in the movies.

Am I the only one here who read his novel?
