Seriously. Can't we all chip in a buck or something?

I agree. I'm all for this too. Look at the top dog blogs. They all have a donation button where if you want you could donate $1.00 or $20 if you feel like it. We'd all probably chip in a little something and in no time the problem would be fixed.

The artists on the board could raise money by selling drawings of popular comic book characters engaged in sexual intercourse.

At the moment I don't think I'm willing to pay for the board, but a pay option might be incentive enough for me to leave. It would force me to face the fact that I'm spending a lot of time at a website I don't wish to support monetarily, and I'm not sure I could keep that up in good conscience. If I left the board, that might alleviate some of the server problems, too.

What to do, what to do... :-?

Great. Now I feel like I have to write an e-mail of apology to a bunch of porn sites. Thanks a lot.

Who's emailing the porn sites asking to see their toes?! If you're emailing people at the porn sites asking to see their toes then you have some serious issues.

As long as it doesn't become a "if you pay you can use pm's and see other people's profiles", it would be cool to have a donation button.

I want to see toes beaten with bottle brushes.I once saw, maybe five years ago, a site devoted to the fetish of a woman's foot in a high-heeled, open-toed shoe/sandal hitting the brakes in a car.

I don't even know what that fetish is called, so I don't know how to search for it, so I never found it again. The specificity of it was so odd, yet it had galleries of pictures, videos and a very active forum of creepy, creepy fellows drooling over the phenomenon.

I think we all seriously need to investigate this.

More often than not anymore, I get that damn "server is too busy" message. We've been enjoying the benefits of this forum for a few years now, to me it's time to give back to Brian Bendis with some financial support to increase the bandwidth at Jinxworld.

There should be a donation button at the top of the forum.

Just my 2,
PCI think you're going to have to give more than that.

Bendis has come down hard against this, and he's not bending. I think we're stuck with this server. *pokes it*

I agree, but is this really the problem? The 606server is pretty big from what I understand. There are other sites on it as well.
And, I doubt Bendis would allow this.

Um, they aren't the problem. I think the server issue has to do with what the forum is set at or something. I could be wrong though.
Anyway, it's a big job to upgrade a server, and it's most likely not going to be something Bendis and Dan are going to be up for. It's a nice idea though about the donation thing though even though I don't see it happening.

I can not give the server any money.

However, when the server dies, on it's deathbed it will achieve total consciousness.

I'd be down for donating some money. Maybe have Marvel back the site a little more?

Here's a good reason not to have people giving money: It's more likely that people will feel they should be able to post whatever they want, about whatever and whomever. I don't see this being a major problem with the long time posters, but maybe more with newer members.

This.

Plus there's the fact that it's vBulletin most likely, not the server. And guys...Bendis has said many times that he's not going to accept donations at all. So can we please put this to rest?

Also, and I've noticed this on other board, when there's a donation system, it tends to create cliques among the members. On a Survivor board I belong to, the donaters repeatedly show out and out contempt to those who haven't donated. I doubt it'll be as bad here, but still.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, it's not the server, just the way something is set up or what have you.

As a regular member and receiver of the "server is down" message bunches and bunches of times, I'd like to say...

Shut the hell up.

When or if Bendis wants to accept donations, he will. But for now he's paying out of his pocket for us to come here and post. And it's not just the cost of the server, you also have to pay VBulletin to use their software/coding.

It's not like there's not other sites on the internet. And yeah okay, this may be the cool one, the one we all like to hang out at, but come on. Quit complaining, quit trying to change the way things are, and just accept that this is how it's going to be, and be grateful that you have a place like this to come at all.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, it's not the server, just the way something is set up or what have you.

I believe it's a server load setting, if I remember correctly. Not the server itself.

Plus there's the fact that it's vBulletin most likely

It is VBulletin, the admin has set the load limit in the config. All that has to be done is set it to 0 and then your only constraint is the server speed and bandwidth. The "server is too busy" message is an EXACT fact that the load limit has been set.

But it is Bendis's server and is probably set with a load limit to decrease bandwidth overages

Then he'd perhaps need to chance providers cuz the "server too busy" notice is very, very annoying

Or, Bendis could become less popular, therefor reducing the number of lurkers...

Either's fine by me
:)

Since Bendis isn't here, I'll just give you the response he'd give.

get your money back :)

And with that, I'm closing the thread. Dead issue.
