Spears filed legal papers today in Los Angeles County Superior Court, citing "irreconcilable differences." In her petition, Spears asks for both legal and physical custody of the couple's two children, one-year old Sean Preston and two-month old Jayden James, with Federline getting reasonable visitation rights.

As for money, sources tell TMZ the couple, who married in Sept. 2004, has an iron-clad prenup. Not surprisingly, Spears is waiving her right to spousal support. She's also asking the judge to make each party pay their own attorney's fees.

Spears gives the date of separation as yesterday, the same day she flaunted her incredible revamped physique during a surprise appearance on David Letterman's show. Sources tell TMZ there was no single reason for Britney pulling the plug, rather, it was "a string of events."

Spears has hired powerhouse celebrity divorce lawyer Laura Wasser, who has repped a number of celebs, including Angelina Jolie, Nick Lachey and Kiefer Sutherland. We're told Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe asked Wasser to rep both of them in their split, but Wasser declined for personal reasons.

Holy crap.

I think this is the only posting I've ever made. However, I never really thought they'd get a divorce for a variety of reasons, mainly because of the fact that there was a lot saying that if they did then Federline would get an insane amount of money. Seems like that's no longer true.

Not surprised as much, but didn't see her doing it especially with them having two children. I thought it was more likely last year before they had their second child together.

K-Fed is a wrestler now?

No, he had a guest spot on RAW one night.

But it proved so popular, they'e kept it going and made him a manager-type badguy.

Now after this, I could see it becoming more permanent.

I heard on the radio that Fed is begging concert management not to cancel his shows after a show last night. The venue holds 1500 people. Only 300 tickets were sold. He played 3 hours late and only for 30 minutes. Only 100 people stayed throughout the show.

I'm thinking that this divorce was the reason why he had that original guest spot.

I'm more worried about the 300 people who bought tickets and the 100 who actually stayed for the show.

I guess I classify stuff like comics, movies, music, and tv as a different form of pop culture than celebrity life thats on the cover of magazines in the checkout isle of your local grocery store.

I know I've deflated my arguement by actually clicking and posting in one of the threads, but I just find it a little silly that a bunch of (mostly) men have started a thread about a celebrity divorce. I'm not saying "STOP ALL THE POSTING ABOUT CELEBS" or anything of that nature. Just found it a little silly, is all. No malice coming from me.
