New Street Fighter Live Action Film
Planned for 2008
October 31, 2006

Variety is reporting that Hyde Park Entertainment and video game maker Capcom Ltd. have formed a joint venture to produce a new Street Fighter live action film for release in 2008, which will be the 20th anniversary of the Street Fighter video game. Screenwriter Justin Marks, who has just finished writing Voltron for producer Mark Gordon, has been hired to pen the script for the new live action Street Fighter film, which will focus on the exploits of Chun Li, the game's most popular female fighter.

In 1994 Jean Claude Van Damme starred in the first Hollywood live action Street Fighter film. Earlier this year Manga Entertainment released the Street Fighter II anime feature in its uncut form for the first time here in the States and it was one of the top anime releases of the summer. Early next year Sota Toys is planning to release a new series of Street Fighter Action Figures, which testifies to the enduring appeal of the property. Although it may no longer be "state-of-the-art" in the highly competitive fighting video game category, more than 25 million Street Fighter games have been sold as well as 500,000 arcade units.

God, the first one was a horrible, horrible trainwreck. And it's a crime against nature that it's Raul Julia's last film role.

Wow.

Well in needs to be like Bloodsport or something of that nature for it to work. And re-design their clothes... eh, its gonna suck.

I'm sure everyone has learned from the last mistake and will do a kickass job this time.

Okay, I'm hoping.

You know what's great about this? You know what it is? What's great is that, yet again, they're making the main character someone who was a main SUPPORTING character in the main Street Fighter story

"Well, it REALLY worked well when we changed everything and made Guile the main character in the last film. So what will we do now?"

"Make Ryu the main character like he was supposed to?"

"You shut the fuck up with your logic and sense, stupid fucking logical person!!!! No, let's try the other supporting character and make Chun Li the main focus for this"

They're making a third movie. It's due out '08 or '09 last I heard. Same cast too from what i remember, except Lambert is back as Rayden.

For fuck's sake, at least keep up with the times and make a soul calibur movie! Is it THAT difficult to see what the kids are playing these days?
