Duran Duran says Andy Taylor has quit Thu Oct 26, 5:25 PM ET

LONDON - Duran Duran announced that guitarist Andy Taylor has quit the veteran rock group. Duran Duran said Taylor quit last weekend but that the remaining four members — singer Simon Le Bon, keyboardist Nick Rhodes, bassist John Taylor and drummer Roger Taylor — plan to continue recording and performing as a group.

"We have reached a point in our relationship with him where there is an unworkable gulf between us and we can no longer effectively function together," the band said Thursday in a statement on their Web site.

Duran Duran apologized to fans for not making the announcement sooner, saying they realized that speculation had been running high about Taylor's future.

The band, led by Le Bon, were a big act in the 1980s but later faded from popularity before regrouping five years ago.

"Although obviously disappointed and saddened about this, we are excited about the next chapter of the Duran Duran story and look forward to seeing you all soon," the statement said.

If this was 1982 I'd be really bummed.

He quit again? He always seemed to have issues with being overshadowed by Simon Lebon and John Taylor.

Talk about burying the lead. I think the big story here is that Duran Duran is still together.

I actually thought Andy Taylor's solo album, Thunder, from 1987 was pretty good. Tasty riffs, with co-writer Steve Jones from the Sex Pistols. His earlier tracks from soundtracks, too - "Take It Easy" & "When The Rain Comes Down".

But I haven't heard good music out of him since. If he had good new stuff with Duran Duran, I never heard it. I heard that dude blew his talent out with cocaine. They shoulda stuck with the Missing Persons guy.

Has anyone contacted the members of Wham! for comment?

I actually saw Duran Duran in concert at MSG last year and it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Two straight hours of them on-stage with only one 5-minute break.

I hope that they continue to tour and I can see them again, with or without Andy Taylor.

I would do very very very bad things to Warren Cuccurullo.

Awful, horrible, unnatural things. Things proscribed by mother church. Things that would make HP Lovecrafts Elder Gods go "Wow...thats a bit much."

He is teh hawtness.

My wife was watching the news last night and saw this in one of those news crawls at the bottom of the screen. She's a huge Duran Duran fan, and even she said, "Wow, that would be big news if it were 20 years ago." :)
