All I wanted to do today was sleep. cats said no. Spent a lot of the day running errands, but the weather was nice. Ian and I were going to catch the last episode of Venture Bros, which he'd missed before, but I barely have the energy to type pronouns. Blurg...

why did the cats have you running errands?

I just looked at the clock hoping that it was late enough to justifiably go to bed. Six maybe a bit too early. I don't know if I could sleep for more than 12 hours...it's tempting though.

BTW, just hit the miracle cylon baby blood episode. Fuck. Just when I thought this show was going to start getting good, it pulls that crap on me.

That's the low point. i stopped watching there. then, i went back and watched the last two episodes of the season, and damn. just...damn.

I may have announced "I quit" at that point. I'm not sure why I went back the next week, but I did. You're close (they may even be next, I don't recall) to the back to back Starbuck/Apollo episodes that didn't do much for me as I watched them, but blew me away later when I thought about them and their structure.

Ok, yeah... you're in for a little bump there. I was stuck a little farther than that for a long time, until just before the new season started. Here's a road map to prepare you:

13 - Epiphanies: Crap. This was the episode you just watched
14 - Black Market: Crap, even with Bill Duke which is a shame
15 - Scar: Crap/Meh
16 - Sacrifice: OK
17 - The Captain's Hand: Good
18 - Downloaded: Really Good
19/20 - Lay Down Your Burdens: Really Good

You've basically got another couple of hours of turbulence, but then things pick up. Also, Season Three so far has been pretty good, with the latest episode qualifying as "epic."

I thought season 3 has been ok, with the latest being really good. Feels like they could have compressed it an episode and this should have been the finale of last season.

I'll have to watch that tomorrow night. I've been completely uninspired to watch this show when I see it on the DVR. Maybe they've just got Season-startitis or something.

Wait a sec...season 2.0 was crap-meh and now people are warning me that 2.5 is more than half crap-meh also? Feck.

Miracle Cylon Baby is the only one I thought was flat out crap.

The rest of it, I enjoyed. I had to look at an episode guide to remember what each one was, but some of the episodes you're about to hit are great. Black Market and Scar are the Apollo/Starbuck character study episodes and the show is more interested in how the characters react to a situation than it is with the situation itself.

There's some politics coming up, which always struck me as odd that as we all flee for our lives through the depths of space, we'd bother with debates and political talk shows, but I roll with it. I figure maybe these guys actually care about who's do what in governement, unlike our branch of the human race.

I loved 2.0, and I loved 2.5, too, but the miracle cylon baby, it was like a concussion. I had to rest for a while and recover. When I did, I came back and was totally freakin' psyched for the end of it. 2.5 had a jaw-dropping conclusion.

I agree that they could have compressed it without losing anything, but I liked that taking their time enhanced the overall tension and discomfort, the sense of hopelessness.

Loved 2.0? Ick...I assume you were doing something else while you were watching. There were many piles of books that probably needed moving from one room to another during the Saving Private Ryan ripoff scenes. Then the cats probably distracted you for the Starbuck back on Caprica scenes.

Starbuck on Caprica took a while to resolve, but I liked the way in which you saw more of the cylons' motivations and intentions. I liked Pegasus a lot. Plus, I enjoyed the character drama of all of those moments, so...yeah.

I loved Starbuck on Caprica. While the episode about the Farm felt like it was a bit low budget and wanted to be more than it was, I enjoyed it all the same.

While up in Vancouver recently for game work, I was talking to some guys that live there and they were saying that they can't enjoy BSG because they know the park that they film all the Caprica stuff at. And when Starbuck visited the museum, that was actually just a local library.

Just watched the newest episode while eating lunch. If the first 3 episodes had been condensed into one and then this had been the second half of a two hour season opener, then my head might rightly have exploded with glee. THIS was some motherfucking Battlestar Galactica.

Exactly my feeling, B.

Though, The Ramtower does have a point about living with the misery for a while. Would epi 3 have felt as awesome if we hadn't seen the tragedy up to that point for 3-5 hours? It may have felt contrived. I know I hate it when shows rush to wrap things up just because the episode is ending. I think maybe 2 episodes instead of 3 might be the right balance. I dunno, still good stuff overall.

Yeah -- it was pretty excruciating toward the end. I liked the excruciating for the most part, but the hurt was on.

There was a lot of stuff that happened in those first few episodes that had no payoff in this episode though. If we'd seen Starbuck/Cylon/Baby, Sharon/Galactica/Pegasus, Tigh/Resistance/Betrayal and ignored almost everything else (rounding up folks, firing squads, Chief/Gaylen) I think we would have gotten a tighter, tenser two hours.

Then again, my last couple days has been spent condensing 28 pages worth of stuff into 22 on two different projects, so maybe that's just where my brain is at the moment. Smaller, faster, sleeker.
