IME: Mr. Vice President, if you had to take back any one thing you'd said about Iraq, what would it be?

CHENEY: I expressed the sentiment some time ago that I thought we were over the hump in terms of violence, I think that was premature. I thought the elections would have created that environment. And it hasn't happened yet.

The other thing that I'd mention, too, not really in response to your question: I'm struck by the fact that what's being attempted here is to break our will. (New York Times columnist Thomas) Friedman has got an interesting piece today on it, talking about the extent to which the enemy in this stage in Iraq aim very much at the American people... (they) use the media to gain access through technical means that are available now on the Internet and everything else to create as much violence as possible, as much bloodshed as possible and get that broadcast back into the United States as a way to try to shape opinion and influence the outcome of our debate here at home. And I think some of that is going on, too.

The full transcript of TIME's interview with Vice President Cheney will be posted on Sunday October 22.

So he answers the question, and then totally changes the subject to an editorial he read that morning.

Nice. Can't wait to read the full transcript on Sunday....maybe he'll tell me what he read in his horoscope that morning.

The term he used was "last throes."

The "cool" thing to say would've been "they just don't realize it yet . . ."

Bush changed his tune (http://www.heraldnet.com/stories/06/10/12/100wir_a4bush001.cfm) last week...

President Bush opened the door to possible changes in his approach to the Iraq war, declaring Wednesday that "we'll change tactics when we need to change tactics," as pressure from Republicans has grown about the unrelenting violence and the continuing shortcomings of the government in Baghdad.

Bush, facing questions about his Iraq policy, said at a White House news conference that the description of his policy as a stay-the-course stance is only "about a quarter right."

"My attitude is, don't do what you're doing if it's not working. Change," he said.

Cheney ALMOST admits he was wrong about something. Sadly, and in all seriousness, it's the most shocking thing I've heard in awhile.
