View Full Version : Battlestar Galactica Season 3 (no spoilers from me)

Finally watched the season premiere this evening.
I was strangely emotionally detached from the whole thing, which is odd because I couldn't have been more wound up in the season 2 ender.
I think maybe it's because so many of the main characters were in such static positions and so many of the secondary characters were making the engine run. the problem is, we've never known much about these B-listers, so it's kind of hard to care about them when they get into trouble.
The writers are doing a hell of a high wire act right now, and I found myself more interested in the mechanics and craft of how they as writers were going to get themselves back to the show they were making (and out of the plot situation they're currently in) than I was in the actual story they were telling. It was almost like watching an exhibition ball game, where the outcome doesn't really matter, but you're just enjoying the sport.

I didn't think there were second stringers in Battlestar? ;)
Ellen Tigh is the best drunk and might just be a cylon. Callie is the best looking gal on the show. Anders is Starbuck's reverse Cinderella... Everyone has a complicated backstory and generous amount of screentime... There's a reason this is almost the best TV being made today.

Excuse me?
You're just being contrarian, right?

Is Callie the cutie assistant to the Chief? I don't know about best looking, but I do leer at that one. Though I leer at the Cylon Boomer girl more. And occasionally at Starbuck, though when she had a blood mustache in season two, that was just right out.
I suppose the one that the Doctor keeps envisioning is good looking, but I think I like her more because the nutso doctor is the one part of the plot that consistently interests me.

Hell no, she's gorgeous. I like mousey and unassuming because there's usually a tiger bundled in there peppering to be rought free. Besides I also love the air of a woman being unfufilled by unrequited love, it's such an in. Watching her swoon and blub through Season One over the Chief was intoxicating... It was the tiger in her who bit that guys ear off on the prison barge and shot Boomer dead.

I watch the show religiously (And wish I liked it more) but the season premier was great. What I want to see? Have Apollo and Baltar switch minds somehow. Bamber has such a cool accent in interviews I want to see it in an episode.
And the Starbuck revelation was a disappointment. I was hoping she'd be a Cylon. Oh well.

I gotta agree with Callie being hot... she's a solid second to Boomer for me.
But then Kaylee was my favorite on Firefly... so I guess I like mousey mechanic girls.

Slight spoilers ahead, but nothing Earth shattering.
Watched this week's episode and I figured it out. It seems so obvious now -- the reason season 3 isn't completely clicking for me is that it's the same as season 2. It took me cracking a joke about how Starbuck's husband (which is another rant here in a moment) has the same character arc this season as he did last: guy stuck on planet fighting a guerilla war against the Cylons while the crew of Galactica try to decide if they're going to go rescue him.
Which brings me to the second reason I'm having a hard time getting into this season: we hear a character's name once on this show and then never again and those of us who have only watched the episodes when they air the first aired and never again kind of forget people's names. I don't know the names of:
Starbuck's Hubby
Any of Hubby's buddies
The Cylon guy holding Starbuck captive
The gal who hangs out with Roslin (used to be her press secretary, if I recall)
The police dude with a guilty conscience
Lucy Lawless Cylon :grope:
Dean Stockwell Cylon
Creepy Dude Who Almost Shot Baltar Cylon (I know he's been around since the mini-series
Anybody on the Galactica Viper Flight Crew
I'm just saying, every so often, for the sake of those of us who last saw your show in January and enjoy it but don't devote our lives to it -- please add ", NAMEOFCHARACTER" to the end of a few sentences per scene.
The Shield is a prime example of a show with a huge cast of characters, a dozen or more subplots and yet they make sure you know everyone's names at all time.
Hopefully, once the new Caprica plot gets wrapped up, we'll see some cool new stories. But so far, this season is a bit of a bust when it should be kicking my ass around my living room the way the second half of last season did.

Speaking of Cylons, there are only twelve (12) skinhead models, right? have we seen all twelve (12)?

Last count I had, no -- I think we've seen, what, seven? Maybe a few more?

Oh, we've probably seen them all, we just don't know we've seen them all.

I know there's Caprica and Sharon and Brother Something but what ARE the names of Xena, Creepy Media Guy, and Starbuck's Stalker?

You should have seen her at the Firefly premiere. It was funny, when she walked by, conversations stopped for a second.

There was a girl dressed as her at the Kirkland Firefly eps + Serenity screening. She was merely dressed as her and it added many points of cuteness I suspect.
