Hoping it's a good card. Because Shamrock's gonna die about 15 seconds in to his fight with Tito.

Smokinblues
10-10-2006, 04:07 PM
Hamill/Petruzelli first. Been wanting to see Hamill since Ultimate Fighter.

WillieLee
10-10-2006, 04:08 PM
Maybe Ortiz has been too distracted by Jenna and Shamrock will win. Thus making for the inevitable five-fight series the UFC has been dreaming of.

WillieLee

What's with MMA fighters lifting nicknames from other fighters?

Jim T.
10-10-2006, 04:09 PM
What time is the Shamrock fight?

Smokinblues
10-10-2006, 04:13 PM
ken tito is the main event, so probably 8:30ish or later.

Smokinblues
10-10-2006, 04:14 PM
Hamill pretty much dominated the first round. Petruzelli is cut under his left eye.

check that, his eye is FUCKED, just not quite fucked enough to stop the fight

Briomega
10-10-2006, 04:16 PM
Feh, will catch the replay on Saturday.

Smokinblues
10-10-2006, 04:17 PM
Petruzelli rocked him, but Matt managed to get him down and on top of him. damn.

and one of the pretaped fights was a massive bleeder judging from the mat

Smokinblues

Smokinblues

this might get called due to cuts

Briomega

Yeah, that looks bad. And man, the other fight must've been a bloodbath. It's all over the place.

Briomega

Matt looks really good.

Smokinblues

but like Rogan said, a little hesitant to advance in the guard

Kirblar

Matt looks terrible, actually. He cannot do ANYTHING but take Seth down.

Smokinblues
10-10-2006, 04:27 PM
Big take down. Both guys faces are fucked.

Smokinblues
10-10-2006, 04:27 PM

he's not doing enough damage once he's on the ground

I meant physically. He looks really fit.

Kirblar
10-10-2006, 04:29 PM
Well, duh. He looks not-ready-for-primetime though.

Smokinblues
10-10-2006, 04:29 PM
Petruzelli made up some ground in the third, but Matt just had too many take downs I think.

Smokinblues
10-10-2006, 04:31 PM
Well, duh. He looks not-ready-for-primetime though.

yeah, but he's got a world of potential if he gets better with his hands and more aggressive on the ground.

Well, duh. He looks not-ready-for-primetime though.

It's only his fourth fight and he has no stand-up background. But he is progressing better than some wrestlers. He'll have to fight lower-tier fighters for a while before he can go in with someone talented.

Briomega

Good for Matt. He's got the potential to be a great fighter someday.

WillieLee
10-10-2006, 04:33 PM
I just want him to win so I can hear the deaf-talk.

He's boring.

Understandable. And he's going to be boring for a while yet. MMA has gotten to the level of boxing where you have to nuture fighters so they don't get blown out early in their careers. The problem is that we have to watch the progression. But at least it's free.

He has the talent. But he is very vulnerable in the stand-up.

WillieLee
10-10-2006, 04:43 PM
I really wish someone would get creative in these pre-fight bumpers. Start crying or talk about how they have no chance in the fight.

Smokinblues
10-10-2006, 04:46 PM
now this is a good ground fight

Smokinblues
10-10-2006, 04:47 PM

i thought he broke his arm off at first the way it was twisted around right as he went for the hold

WillieLee

I never liked Herman. I guess he'll have to wait to teach Tito that lesson.

Briomega

Yeah, that was a great series of reversals but that last move was brilliant. Do have to give Herman credit for not panicking and staying in that for so long.

Briomega
10-10-2006, 05:11 PM
Zzzzzzzzz...wha? Are they gonna have another fight now?

WillieLee
10-10-2006, 05:13 PM
Zzzzzzzzz...wha? Are they gonna have another fight now?

No, they need to do some more bumpers on how each fighter feels he is going to win the fight.

Smokinblues
10-10-2006, 05:17 PM
yeah they really need to work on the pacing of these shows on free tv

Briomega

Stopped too early. He was defending himself. Though it was inevitable. Not impressed with Kendall at all.

WillieLee

If they took out all the time devoted to bumpers they could easily add another fight.

I don't see how anybody saw it live at full speed, but yeah on the replays he clearly was tappping. at least when he wasn't instinctively trying to block. he was getting killed.

Tito kills Ken, next

there is an angle where it looks like the elbows are largely missing. I don't think it was a horrible stoppage. Just a second or two too soon. I think UFC was just paranoid about Tito permanantly injuring Ken, and rightly so.

Well, Tito threatened that he would never stop hitting Shamrock and that they'd have to pull him off him or he'd cripple/kill him. So, I think they went in overcautious.

I'm speaking more to Ken's delusion. Another 20 seconds in that fight wouldn't have changed anything.

Oeming

Yep, Tito. He was ALMOST a dick about it too, but ken got him to man up and be honrable about it. Good fight, good end to an amazing career.

That's what has bothered me about this whole rematch nonsense. Tito showed that Ken was too old in their first fight.

I'm just glad it's over and we can see the Lidell/Ortiz rematch. Because I think Tito is a much different fighter than he was in that first fight. More mature and more focused.

Good fight. I'm glad they buried the hatchet. It didn't look like Tito was going to, but he did the right thing.

Now we get to hype up for Lidell/Ortiz. Woot!

I'm on the fence about this one. I just want to see a good fight and not the 'run at Chuck and get hit' scenario that has happened recently.

Eh...

Tonight was one of the weaker Ultimate Fight nights.

Here's my quick recap:

-Matt Hamill proves yet again he's a one trick pony and will get his ass handed to him if the UFC ever puts him up against someone who can strike.

-Jason MacDonald proved he was up to the hype in a great fight.

-Kendall Grove did a good job even though I don't care for him much.

-Tito beat Ken again, big surprise.

-And of course the UFC decides blacks out one of the best fighters on the card, Nathan Marquardt.

Even though UFC 64 is Saturday, I can't help but keep thinking how awesome the PRIDE FC "The Real Deal" show is going to be!!!

the buyrate for ortiz-liddell 2 should be pretty solid. regardless of the outcome those guys are going to make a killing between the fight pay, win bonus, and their pay per view shares.

I had a good time watching, though I think I'm more excited about the possibility of Carter vs Sera on TUF this week.

yeah they really need to work on the pacing of these shows on free tvI realize they have to show a certain number of commercials, but there is a LOT of wasted time. They really didn't need to interview Rich. They're showing a million fucking commercials for the show on Saturday, so either you're going to buy it or you're not.

I do like that I'm on the cable company's mailing list for ads for UFC shows. :D

Brewtown Andy
10-10-2006, 10:34 PM
oooh he tappedI have no idea why. I mean, yeah, Kendall had mount, but he was doing a good job of making sure Kendall wasn't landing solid blows.

Eh, submission victory's still a W.

And as far as not being impressed with Kendall, Kendall took him down, worked up to mount, and punched him till he wanted to quit. That's what you do.

Brewtown Andy

Brewtown Andy
10-10-2006, 10:39 PM
You know what annoys me more than the bumpers? The fact that they appear to only have 5 sponsors, so I've seen all of the commercials 47 times now.

Watching Ken walk in and listening to them talk about how relaxed he is, if the fight magically goes 2 rounds, he's going to be gassed completely to shit.

Brewtown Andy
10-10-2006, 10:41 PM

It's not a certainty. Given his last few fights it's entirely possible that Chuck may be overconfident going into this. Figuring he'll just do the same as last time. He should win, though, as long as he takes it seriously.
