View Full Version : Eureka Season Finale Beats Veronica Mars in Ratings Upset!

The Futon Critic links to a ratings report showing that the overnight ratings for Eureka's season finale were higher than the season premiere ratings for Veronica Mars. Unfortunately, The Futon Critic seems to be down at the moment, so I can't provide the link.

But isn't that amazing? How often does a cable channel like SciFi beat the main networks? Has Battlestar Galactica ever done this, and is this a harbinger of doom for Veronica Mars?

I'd been storing up Eureka on my DVR since it premiered and only got around to watching it in the last couple of weeks. It was really quite good, and I'm pleased to see that its been renewed for a second season to be aired next Summer.

What I'd love to see is Eureka paired up with Dr Who. Series 3 is set to air in the UK next Spring, so it's not unrealistic to think it will be available to SciFi in time to be matched up with Eureka Season 2.

--Last night's 'Eureka' finale bested the season premiere of the CW's 'Veronica Mars' in key male demos (M18-49, M25-54) and made SCI FI the top ranked cable network in the 9-10p time period, averaging a 1.9 HH rating and 2.4 million viewers (P2+).

- BYeah, I guess it's not quite as great as story as I initially thought. Still, the show got renewed. Woo hoo!

I like "Eureka" and I'm glad people are watching it, but it's nowhere near as good as "Veronica Mars."

Veronica Mars is wonderful, and Eureka has been an unexpectedly terrific show, too, but the two shows have vastly different tones. Eureka is pretty much light-hearted and boyish with a quirky sense of discovery, whereas Veronica Mars is about as dark and cynical as TV gets.

Bottom line for me: Eureka has the potential to be as good as Veronica Mars, but you'll never really be able to compare them fairly.

True. Though I have a feeling "VM" is going to be a little lighter this season. Don't know why-- just got a feeling.
